

Having been evacuated from his White Sands Beach, Old Lyme home, on Sunday, October 28th to L & M Hospital, New London and then to Greentree Manor in Waterford, because of Hurricane Sandy, Stanley died while waiting for power to be restored to his home.
He was born in New Britain on November 21, 1914, the son of Wladyslaw and Anastasia (Zeleski) Kowalczyk.
He attended New Britain schools and was employed by the Great A & P Tea Company for 40 years until his retirement. Stanley married Rena Callegari of New Britain, CT on February 7, 1942 and enjoyed sharing 69 years together until her death on April 23, 2011. Stanley was a veteran of World War II, serving with the United States Army. He enjoyed fishing, bowling, camping, hunting and spending time outdoors. His greatest passion was fishing, especially with a fly rod. He enjoyed a good scotch whiskey and Muniemaker Cigars. He was also a craftsman, enjoying home remodeling and carpentry. He was a member of the Holy Name Society, the Mens Club of St. Johns the Evangelist Church in New Britain the Boys Scouts of America and Christ the King Catholic Church in Old Lyme.
Shortly after Stanley and Rena retired, they moved from New Britain to Old Lyme to enjoy their home on the shore of White Sands Beach in 1983. Together they enjoyed each others love, family, friends and the serenity of their beach home.
Mr. Kowalczyk is survived by sons Ronald and Virginia (Biscoglio) of Scotch Plains, N.J. Robert and Nancy (Hostmeyer) of Vernon, CT, Richard and Anne (Dahlberg) of Ivoryton, Reed and Yvonne (Johnston) of Fayetteville, N.C. a daughter Lynne of Berlin; a sister Vera (Przytulski) of New Britain, 8 grandchildren, Jeffrey, Gregory, Robert, Smyth, Jessica, Taylor, Nicholas, and Morgan, and seven great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and special friends Luisa and Richard Grogan and Beth Kavy.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, November 9th at 10 A.M. in Christ The King Church, McCurdy Rd., Old Lyme. Calling hours will be held at 9-a.m. prior to the Mass in Fulton-Theroux Funeral Home, 13 Beckwith Ln., Old Lyme, CT 06371. Burial with military honors will follow in the Conn. Veteran's Cemetery, Bow La., Middletown. Memorial donations in his memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or to Hospice of SECT.
