Allan "Al" Breault, 78, lifelong resident of Old Saybrook, passed away peacefully at Yale-New Haven Hospital Saint Raphael Campus on May 14, 2026. Al was the beloved only son of the late Henry O. and Simone(Duval) Breault. He attended Old Saybrook schools his entire life and graduated from Old Saybrook High School in 1966.
From a young age, Al was fascinated with taking things apart and putting them back together. A natural with his hands, he spent much of his early teenage years working with some of the towns busiest automotive repair shops and developed a strong knack for all things mechanical. He would later use these skills to open his own small engine repair shop in Old Saybrook, Al's Power Equipment. Al also worked at Bell Power Systems for many years organizing and managing their parts department.
Al was dedicated to assisting his community and was a member of the Connecticut Army National Guard. He also served many years as a volunteer firefighter with the Old Saybrook Fire Department. An avid NASCAR fan and traveler, Al found great peace getting away from the cold of the Northeast to warmer climates; especially his most beloved destination - Clearwater, Florida. For over 45 years, Al made his numerous trips every year to Clearwater; it was his special place of private tranquility.
Al will always be remembered as a good-natured and generous friend and neighbor. He was proud to be a part of the Old Saybrook community his entire life and his opportunities to serve the town in many ways. He will always be remembered and truly missed by those who knew him. Al is survived by his close friend Mike and Paul Mendes and family as well as many dear cousins and other family members.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Al will be celebrated at 11a.m. on Tuesday May 26, 2026 at St. John Church, St. Pio Parish, 161 Main St., Old Saybrook. Guests are kindly asked to meet directly at the church in the morning. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery in Westbrook. Donations in Al's honor may be made to: Connecticut Humane Society, 701 Russell Road., Newington, CT 06111.
