

She was born on April 6, 1938, in Manchester, NH, the daughter of John and Pauline (Goode) Coulombe. Beverly was the widow of William C. Whalen, Sr. who died in 1980.
Beverly was an active member of the local community, volunteering at the Saybrook Food Pantry, The KATE, the Estuary Council of Seniors and the Goodspeed Opera House. Before her retirement, she worked as a secretary at Pratt and Whitney, Fuss and O'Neill Engineering and East Catholic and Xavier High Schools as well as a teller at the Middlesex Credit Union. She was a member of St. John Church in Old Saybrook and taught religious education for many years both in Old Saybrook and South Windsor. She was past president of the Fenwood District in Old Saybrook and was an active member of the Westbrook Elks Lodge. She was active in fund raising for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's Team in Training program. Beverly loved welcoming family and friends into her home and always looked forward to her weekly bridge games. She was also an avid tennis player.
Beverly is survived by her sons William, Jr. and his husband John Wu of New York, NY, John and his wife Moira of Kennebunk, ME, and Thomas and his wife Monica of West Hartford, CT; sister Carole Casale and her husband Joseph of Stuart, FL; she leaves behind 9 cherished grandchildren who were the light of her life. In addition to her husband she was predeceased by her daughter Sarah Whalen.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday October 12th from 5-8pm at Swan Funeral Home, 1224 Boston Post Rd., Old Saybrook. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday October 13th at 11am in St. John Church, Main St., Old Saybrook. Burial will follow at Cypress Cemetery.
