She was born on March 16, 1963, in Clinton, the daughter of the late Tony and Barbara Colello.
Cathy worked as a customer service representative at different call centers throughout the years, including a long tenure at Godiva Chocolates. She was a very creative person who enjoyed making art with mosaic tiles and working in her garden. She was an outdoor enthusiast, who shared many wonderful memories hiking at places such as the Grand Canyon with her family, or catching fish in Maine with her husband.
Cathy was the best wife and mother that a husband and son could have ever asked for. She was kind, always thoughtful, and her ability to love unconditionally was what made her son and husband want to be the best possible versions of themselves. She never stopped believing in either of them, despite any challenges she faced.
The first thing you noticed about Cathy was how her eyes would light up when she smiled. This was also the first thing that Dave noticed and loved about her when he met her so many years ago. Cathy will always be his "Beautiful Wife.”
Cathy enjoyed gardening, doing crafts, Jazzercise, kayaking, fly fishing, listening to music (Freddie Mercury was her absolute favorite), and spending time with her family and friends. She especially loved dogs. She never walked past a dog that she didn't stop to pet, talk to, and tell how sweet and wonderful they are. She always believed that dogs were the best kind of people. Her two Labradors, Bishop and Deacon, were always very precious to her.
Most importantly, Cathy always fought for what she believed in. Whether it was her political beliefs or telling the clerk at the store who treated a member of her family poorly how they could do their job better, she did everything she could to protect what she loved and believed. Without a doubt, she was the strongest member of the Baucum family.
Cathy is survived by her husband David L. Baucum, her son Matthew Baucum, also of Deep River, sister Susan VanWinkle of Rougemont, NC, niece Jessica-Lee VanWinkle of Worcester, MA, nephew Blake VanWinkle of Denver, CO, and her beloved dog Deacon.
Services will be held at the First Congregational Church found at 1 Church St, Deep River, Ct 06417, at 12:00 PM on Tuesday, November 9th. Friends and family are all welcome.
