Darrell G. Pataska, of Old Saybrook, CT, beloved husband, Dad and Poppa, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, July 3, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones. He was born on June 2, 1953 in Bellevue, Iowa, son of William and Marilyn (Roe) Pataska. He is survived by his loved wife of 47 years, Ellen (Zabel) Pataska, daughters Katrina (Timothy) Cotter and Keri (Matthew) Lind and four grandchildren who were truly the light of his life – Bridget, Ryne, Evelyn and Siena. He is also survived by brothers Dale (Judy) Pataska and John (Olinda) Pataska, sister in law Rochelle Pataska, along with many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Marilyn Pataska, his sister Rose Schlarmann, brothers Stan, Ronald and Donald Pataska and brother-in-law Dennis Schlarmann.
Darrell graduated from the University of Dubuque leading to an illustrious 40-year accounting career reaching partner status at both Arthur Andersen and BlumShapiro. This was only one aspect of Darrell’s life as he never lost sight of his Iowa roots and his love of life on the farm. He had a love of gardening, mentoring others, traveling with his family, reading and boating. In retirement, Darrell volunteered as Chairman of the Board at Middlesex Health and served on numerous other hospital/town/church wide committees. He was loved immensely and his wonderful sense of humor will be greatly missed by all.
Family and friends may visit the Swan Funeral Home, 1224 Boston Post Rd., Old Saybrook on Friday, July 11, from 4-7 p.m. A funeral service will be held at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 56 Great Hammock Rd., Old Saybrook on Saturday, July 12 at 10:00 a.m. Burial to follow in Duck River Cemetery, Old Lyme. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Middlesex Health, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, St. Paul Lutheran Church Memorial Fund or the charity of your choice.
