Dorothy Caudill

March 2, 1943 – July 11, 2026

Dorothy Arents Caudill, lovingly known as "Dodie," passed away peacefully July 11, 2026, in Essex, Connecticut, at the age of 83. She was born March 2, 1943, in New York, New York.

Dodie lived a life marked by faith, compassion, and a deep love for others. Her academic journey was one of dedication and achievement. Dodie earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Clark University in Worcester MA, followed by a nursing certification from Wytheville Community College in Wytheville VA. Her passion for helping others led her to pursue a Master’s degree in Social Work from Wake Forest University. These accomplishments laid the foundation for a diverse and impactful career that spanned several fields. Dodie worked as a hospital registered nurse for five years. She then dedicated 25 years to serving as a therapist, where she touched countless lives with her gentle and caring nature. Additionally, she spent five years as a National Park Ranger, combining her love for the outdoors with her professional endeavors.

Faith was central to Dodie’s life. Raised in the Episcopal Church, as an adult she embraced the Southern Baptist tradition. For several decades prior to moving to Connecticut, she was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Her unwavering devotion to her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ guided her actions and brought comfort to those around her.

Dodie had a profound love for people and the natural world. She cherished time spent outdoors, especially her favorite Blue Ridge and Smoky Mountains, and found joy in God’s creation. Her kindness extended not only to people but also to animals; she adored dogs and shared the last few years of her life with Pip, a beloved rescue mix who remained by her side until her passing.

She is survived by her sister Emily Arents of Arcata CA; brothers Tony (Trish) Lynch of Lyme CT and Kerry (Debi) Lynch of Melvin Village NH; five nieces and nephews, and all of their children and grandchildren, who will remember her warmth and generosity. Dodie was predeceased by her mother Jane Lynch; father George Arents, Jr.; stepfather Tony Lynch; and sister Gina Arents. Dodie’s legacy is one of faith, kindness, and service. May her memory bring comfort to all who knew her.
