Dr. Frank E. Morico, 92, long time resident of Old Saybrook, CT, and beloved husband of Gloria (Iacobelli) Morico, passed away peacefully in his home on September 13, 2011. He was born May 9, 1919 in Hamden, CT, the youngest child of six to the late Ralph and Maria Josephine (Cofrancesco) Morico. He graduated from Hamden High School where he was recognigzed as an outstanding athlete most particularly as an all star baseball player. Upon graduation, he ran the trolley cars in New Haven while operating his own bread business. He then served in the US Army during World War II in the medical group. Dr. Morico married his wife Gloria upon his return home and pursued a medical degree in Podiatric Medicine (DPM) at the Illinois College of Podiatry. He moved to Old Saybrook where he established his practice for 35 years before retirement. It was said that he was the last of the "old time" doctors within the area who was known to treat his patients as his own family. It was not unusual during his retirement to be stopped by his patients just to talk with him and be remembered by them. One of his greatest pleasures was being part of every celebration, sporting event, and activity with his grandchildren that has created many fond memories. Dr. Morico also enjoyed traveling, working in his yard, golfing, talking sports, and attending the Old Saybrook Rams sporting events with his wife in which they were avid supporters. He leaves behind his wife, Gloria of 65 years; his daughter Patricia Morico of Essex, CT; his son Frank and wife Kathy of Chester, CT; his grandsons Nicholas Morico of Lyme, CT and Matthew Morico of Chester, CT; and his granddaughter Katie and husband Jordan Alcott of Cambridge, MA.
His family will receive relatives and friends at the Swan Funeral Home in Old Saybrook on Friday (September, 16, 2011) from 5-8 p.m. A mass will be celebrated at St. John's Roman Catholic Church in Old Saybrook on Saturday at 11 a.m. followed by burial services with miltary honors at Riverside Cemetery.
