Edna M Lorentson

March 26, 1929May 6, 2018

Edna M. Lorentson (89) of Old Saybrook, CT passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 6, 2018. Edna was born March 26, 1929 in Manchester, CT, the fourth and last child of James and Lillian McAllister. She was predeceased by her loving husband Bob, brother Sam McAllister, sister Mildred Nowsch and special friend, Bob Duncan. A longtime resident of Old Saybrook, Edna led an active life nearly to the end. After graduating early from Manchester High, she worked as a secretary before marrying and raising a family, and then managed her husband’s successful new business venture for twenty years. Along the way she travelled the world, volunteered as a docent for the Historical Society, recorded minutes at town meetings, and was involved with the Emblem Club and the Old Saybrook Republican Women’s Club. In her later years she particularly enjoyed playing bridge and mahjong, reading, and doing crossword puzzles. Irish to the core, throughout her life she liked nothing better than to share a drink and a laugh with her family and her many friends. Four sons and their families will miss “Mom” deeply, and took inspiration from her legendary toughness, energy and dignity to the end: Bob, his wife Rosemarie of East Haddam, CT along with their sons, Cody, Alex and Evan; Gary, his wife Mhora of Brookfield, CT along with their daughters Alyssa, Liza, Laura and Catie and great grandson Cayden; Jay and his wife Irene of Reno, Nevada; and Brian, his wife Natalie of Branford, CT along with their daughters Sarah, Lindsey and Samantha. In addition, she leaves behind her sister Ruth Staddon, and too many friends and relations to mention. The immediate family will hold a private celebration of Edna’s life at their convenience. To Bob,Jay, Brian, and Gary:
I am saddened to hear about the loss of your Mother today. She was a kind neighbor who recently reached out to me offering advice and pointing out all the good reasons this town would be a perfect place for me to bring my father to. My wife and I have been blessed to have Edna as a backyard neighbor along with such a great family supporting her independence. I will miss Edna! You are in thoughts.
With heartfelt sympathy,
Keith Coughlin, 6 Crowley Drive
