Helen Elizabeth (Betty) Rehberg, of Westbrook, peacefully departed this life for her next adventure on the afternoon of May 28th, 2019, with her husband of sixty-five years, George, by her side.

Betty was born on May 10th, 1925, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the daughter of James Anderson Mann and Helen Gilchrist Mann. After high school and secretarial school, she met an enlisted man, Naval Hospital Corpsman George Rehberg. They began their married journey together on October 10, 1953, and moved to Westbrook, Connecticut and raised their three children. Betty was active in the Westbrook Fire Department Auxiliary, and a parishioner of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. When her children were old enough to not burn the house down or kill each other, Betty returned to the workforce, first at the Knothe Bros. belt factory, then becoming the secretary to the Building, Zoning, & Sanitation Department for the Town of Westbrook, from which she retired in 1991. She spent the next nearly three decades being a fantastic grandmother (a/k/a DogCar), and an enthusiastic travel companion as she and George took numerous trips to Northern New England, California, Arizona, and other places too numerous to mention.

Betty is survived by her husband, George Bernard Rehberg of Westbrook, son George James Rehberg of Westbrook, daughter Virginia Jane Rehberg and her husband Joseph Salami of Waltham, MA, son John Tyler Rehberg and his wife Linda of Old Saybrook, grandson Jason Rehberg and his wife Wendy of Clinton, granddaughter Emma Elizabeth and grandsons Jordan, Daniel, and Garritt all of Old Saybrook, and four great-granddaughters. She was predeceased by her parents and her sisters, Mary Jane Mann and Virginia Anderson Mann of Chadds Ford, PA.

Calling hours for Betty will be held on Saturday, June 8th, from 11:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m., with a memorial service at 1:00 p.m., at the Swan Funeral Home, 1224 Boston Post Road, Old Saybrook. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude’s Childrens Research Hospital, or Connecticut Childrens’ Medical Center.
