Stephen, Tracey and Ellie,
Your mom, mother-in-law and grandmother, Irene, is hopefully enjoying her rest in heaven by now, having made the transition to the climate and ambiance. It could be very bright and
beautiful there,
unlike the
cloudy days of December and January on the salt marsh in Old Saybrook.

Some of the things she may be doing:
Getting her lawnmower revved up to prepare for heavenly, weedless grass; checking the beach to see if it's calm enough to take a swim with her friend, Noodle;
hanging God's laundry on a clothesline near a salt air marsh, hoping the passing seagulls don't fly over it;
telling Francis he was smart to tell the two girls at 11 Wildwood he needed to
"see a man about a horse" when he really wanted to use their toilet during the yearly neighborhood cookouts;
taking a golf cart ride, in her dreams, with her favorite cart buddy, Stephen, who kept his promise to his mom as she enjoyed her cozy, castle on the salt marsh in Cornfield Point, Old Saybrook.
We hope your family will carry on your mom's tradition of caring and her love for the Cornfield Point neighborhood she and Francis raised you, blue crabbing and love for the Long Island Sound. She was a good neighbor to us, always.

Our condolences,

Diane and Pat

Stephen Tracy and Ellie

We are all so sorry for the passing of your mother. She was a real inspiration for everyone with her energy especially in her gardens and the work she did at the Senior Center. The beach won’t be the same without her sitting there reading her latest novel. She will truly be missed.

Irene and Francis were dear friends of our family during our summers at Cornfield Point. Irene’s ability to walk barefooted over the stones with noodle in hand always amazed me! I will certainly miss our book reviews and her gardening tips. She will be surely missed!
My heartfelt condolences to Stephen, Tracy and Ellie.

Irene Smith was a loving presence in Cornfield point and the women’s auxiliary for many years.
I will miss her presence in the neighborhood and riding with her loving son in the golf cart. May she rest in peace. ⭐️
