Jeanne Szostak entered into eternal rest on January 22, 2021. She was born on October 29, 1930 and was a resident of Old Saybrook, CT. Jeanne was a daughter of Frank and Stella Desjarlais of Willamansett, MA.
Jeanne graduated from Chicopee High School in 1948. She was employed as a top secretary at Spalding and then taught piano at the studio of Bill Harry in Holyoke.
Jeanne married Walter Szostak of Hadley, MA in 1952. She was a secretary at Armstrong Rubber and later was a secretary to the Mayor's Office of New Haven.
Jeanne had a deep faith in God and co-founded the Catholic women's group, "The Mothers Circle", while residing in Hamden. She was also very active in both the Girl Scout and Brownie Troops.
Jeanne was a wonderfully talented piano player and taught piano for many years in Old Saybrook and in Hamden, CT. She founded the Middlesex/New London Chapter of the Connecticut State Music Teachers Association in 1973. She served as president for its first term and was an active member for many years. Jeanne volunteered her piano talent for the residents of various local facilities including Meadowbrook Manor of Centerbrook, CT, and Robin's Nest of Clinton, CT.
Jeanne enjoyed being outdoors and was often seen walking or biking in her neighborhood or down to Indiantown and the beach.
Jeanne and her husband Walter were winter residents of Fort Myers Beach and For Myers for 23 years.
Jeanne is remembered for her fun, outgoing nature and her gentle, caring spirit. She brightened the lives of her family with her unique humorous ways and brought much laughter and happiness to them. Jeanne was the bright sunshine of her family, with her cheerful smile and her kind and understanding words. She gave her family many funny, endearing moments that will always be treasured.
Jeanne was a wonderful, caring wife and a very loving mother and grandmother. The memory of her great love and devotion to her family will be deeply cherished forever. She will be greatly missed and loved each and every day. The bright light of Jeanne will shine within her family's hearts for always.
Jeanne is survived by her three children, Suzanne Szostak of Old Saybrook, Cindy Weisslender and her husband Herb of Old Saybrook, and Nancie Szostak and her husband Tom Itteilag of Westerly, RI; grandchildren, Aaron Weisslender and his wife Kelly of Maine, Brenna Devik and her husband Alex of Maine; brother, Donald Desjarlais of Cherry Valley, NY and many nieces and nephews.
A private service will be held and a Memorial Mass for Jeanne will be celebrated at a later date.
