Joan H Suozzo

Joan Helen (Gherlone) Suozzo, 90, of Old Saybrook, CT, died peacefully on Sunday, June 28, 2026. She was the beloved wife of the late Harry A. Suozzo. Joan was born in New Haven on May 4, 1936, the first child of the late Armand and Anna (Gannon) Gherlone. She was raised in Hamden, CT and was a 1954 graduate of Hamden High School. She, her husband and son lived in Deep River, CT and she later moved to Clinton, CT. She worked for many years at Essex Credit Corporation in Essex, CT.

Joan leaves behind her son, Vincent H. Suozzo of Anchorage, AK, her granddaughter, Ella S. Suozzo of Anchorage, Alaska, her brother, Armand (Jay) Gherlone of Hamden, CT, her sister, Peggy Gherlone Torello and husband William of So. Deerfield, MA, three sisters-in-law, four nephews and nieces, eight grandnephews and grandnieces, two great-grandnieces and one great-grandnephew. She was predeceased by her brothers, David A. Gherlone and Peter J. Gherlone.

Joan was a very loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, and sister and always there to help any family member in need. She had an instant warmth and friendliness with everyone she met.

Joan’s family will receive relatives and friends on Friday, July 17, 2026, from 11:30am until 12:30pm at Swan Funeral Home, 1224 Boston Post Road, Old Saybrook. A funeral service will take place at the funeral home at 12:30pm with Father Michael Bovino officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Chester.

The family extends their sincerest gratitude to all of the staff at Gladeview Healthcare Center in Old Saybrook for their excellent care of Joan during her years in their care.
