John J. Bowes III

John J. Bowes III, of Old Saybrook, passed away on October 28 after a long battle with cancer. Born on August 4, 1929, to John Joseph Bowes II and Mary Foley Bowes of Waterford, John graduated in 1948 from Chapman Tech followed by four years in the Air Force where he met, and later married, the love of his life, Darlene Losey, in 1951 while stationed in Wichita, KS. John is survived by his wife, Darlene, and their four children: son John and wife Cindy (Commander) and their children Christine and John; daughter Susan and her children Paul, Brian, and Krista; son Mark and wife Fran (Dannaher) and their children Shannon, Mark, Sean, and Brennan; and son Matthew and wife Lisa (Patrick) and their children Matthew and Susan, as well as nine great-grandchildren; and sister Mary McClure of Waterford. He is predeceased by his parents and two brothers, Edward and Joseph of Waterford.

Calling hours will be from 6 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, November 1 at the Swan Funeral Home 1224 Boston Post Road Old Saybrook; the funeral will be held Wednesday., November 2, at St. John's Church, Main Street, Old Saybrook at 11 am.
