John E. Gordon

John Edward Gordon of Old Saybrook, Connecticut (formerly of Sag Harbor, NY and Pleasantville, NY), passed away peacefully at home at the age of 90 on Friday Oct.15, 2010.

John was born in New York City on December 9, 1919. John graduated from St. John’s University in New York in 1947 after serving in the US Army military intelligence unit during WWII. After completing his military service he became a Special Agent with the FBI where he enjoyed a long and distinguished career in the New York City office before continuing his lifetime of government service by serving in the Central Intelligence Agency until his retirement.

John was an avid and lifelong golfer and former member, and membership chair of the Noyac Country Club in Southampton, NY. John also loved to play the piano and sing, and is remembered as a gentle, loving husband and father, known for his great wisdom, intellect and unique sense of humor. He was beloved by his wife, five children, eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Survived by his wife of 65 years, Joan (Attridge) Gordon, and four children: J. Gregory Gordon of Old Lyme, CT; Jane Gordon of Chester, CT; Christopher Gordon of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; and Jonathan A. Gordon of Clinton, CT; John was predeceased by a son, Richard J. Gordon. John is also survived by eight Grandchildren: Shannon Gordon of Beverly Hills, CA; Shane Gordon of Old Lyme, CT; Kara Bonsack of Lyme, CT; Kelly Bonsack of Atlanta, GA; Erica (Gordon) Campion of Raleigh, NC; Catherine Gordon, John Gordon and Elizabeth Gordon of Clinton, CT.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at the Gate of Heaven Chapel, Hawthorne, NY on Wednesday October 20, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
