He was born on September 20, 1921, in Brooklyn, NY, the son of Ettore and Vincenza Guadagno.
John was employed at Great Eastern Brass Works in Astoria, N.Y. as a machinist for many years, then as a power plant foreman for the NYC Transit Authority. He had been retired for 30 years. John enjoyed the casino, horse racing and collecting antiques. He also was a published author, photographer, poet and songwriter.
Mr. Guadagno is survived by his wife Frances; children Edward Guadagno and his wife Wendy of Guilford and Bernadette Galgon and her husband Stanley of Brick, NJ; sister Theresa Sarnatoro of Flushing, NY; brother-in-law Ben Maltese of Old Saybrook; grandchildren Stephen Galgon and his wife Maria, Gregory Galgon and his wife Danielle, and Valerie Guadagno; great granddaughters Mallory and Allison Galgon and another great grandchild on the way; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Joseph.
Calling hours will be held on Friday January 31st from 2-4 and 6-8pm at Swan Funeral Home, 1224 Boston Post Rd., Old Saybrook. The funeral procession will assemble on Saturday at 11am at the funeral home and will proceed to a noon Mass of Christian Burial in St. John Church, 161 Main St., Old Saybrook.
