John was born on December 4, 1953 in Valley Stream, Long Island, NY, son of the late John Joseph Levix and Angelina Deseta Levix.
John was a graduate of East Haven High School and pursued further education and vocations, always learning, including at Goodwin Tech and in later years graduating from Porter and Chester Institute as a CAD Drafter/ Designer.
John was a Tool and Die Maker, including for many years at Stanley Black & Decker and then a CAD Drafter and Designer at Pratt & Whitney in East Hartford, until his retirement.
John is survived by his loving wife, Angela Mary Viola Levix. Together they shared the greatest love of all, for 25 years, and lived quietly and happily in beautiful Knollwood Beach in Old Saybrook, CT.
They were married on July 6, 2008, at the Saybrook Point Inn, on the anniversary of the day they met, surrounded by family and friends. God blessed them with days and years full of love, laughter, family, and joy. Living every minute grateful and with prayers of thankfulness, to be together, close to the water and the beaches that they both so loved.
John was quiet, a good man who left this world far too soon, but left everyone happy and lucky to know and love him.
John lived each day with a smile and courage, always putting everyone else first, not wanting to worry anyone, no matter how difficult his own journey was with hardships or health challenges.
John loved music and playing his guitars, especially on his back deck with the birds and woodland creatures chirping along. John filled their home with love songs and happiness.
John and Angela spent their early blissful days on Bantam Lake on his sailboat, the Quickstep. John was a graduate of the Mystic Seaport Sailing School and quickly taught Angela how to sail and climb the mast to boot the sails for him.
They enjoyed traveling and dancing together from the first day they met, listening to bands and concerts, all his favorites, everywhere possible, especially at The Kate.
John spent each day studying the world, the universe and the planets, and living his best life with kindness.
John leaves his children, Erin Carrubba and her husband Ryan, Joshua Levix, and stepdaughter Katherine Upchurch and her husband Reginald.
He leaves his five grandsons, Gavin and Logan Carrubba, Jayden Levix, Adonis Fine and Brandon Robinson (partner Rosa Vicente), who from his baby days, called him Poobah, after that to many family and friends he was always their Poobah. Also, Luis Vicente.
Last December, John was blessed with his great-grandson, Darius Joseph Robinson, son of Brandon and Rosa, a magical, laughing beautiful boy that sat in his lap together their first visit, only a few months old, playing cartoons on the tablet with his Poobah. John played videos of Darius often and laughed along, especially when he needed the joy on his hardest days.
John is survived by his sister Debra Cerrone, who he loved to talk and laugh with every few days; his sister Cathy Brodeur and husband Jeff and sister Joann Williams and his sister-in-law Renee Kinney. He is survived by his brother Ronald Kinney, and his wife Sophia, as well as his special brother-in-law, Joseph Viola. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, special aunts and uncles, and cousins. He was sadly predeceased by his brother Patrick Kinney as well as by two beautiful nieces, Tanya Dobson and Madison Kinney.
Our deepest appreciation for all the care provided to John in Old Saybrook, especially by the wonderful nurses and staff of Middlesex Hospital Care at Home. Their visits several times a week over these many months, gave John, with his wife, Angela, the necessary medical care, support and healing, so John could stay comfortable at home.
We are also grateful for the incredible response, care and compassion provided by the Old Saybrook Ambulance Association, Old Saybrook Police Department and Old Saybrook Fire Department, who came quickly every time to provide their help and exceptional service.
There are angels everywhere; they find us when we need them and, along with our faith in God and our prayers, give us strength.
There is a now a new sweet angel playing his guitar in Heaven, who can dance again as he still watches over all of his family that he loved so much, always with us and in our hearts, giving us the courage to go on here without him.
Until we meet again, my beautiful husband.
John will be laid to rest in peace in Old Saybrook, not far from his favorite place, the Saybrook Point Park Area and Causeway, where he stopped every time, including on his last day out around town with his beloved wife, to enjoy the breathtaking beauty of the water at his very special peaceful place, his town.
All services will be held privately.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Old Saybrook Ambulance Association, Old Saybrook Fire Department or Old Saybrook Police Department in John's honor, and always appreciate and recognize the helpers around you and all the good people in this world.
