June Marshall Woodhouse
June 28, 1932 – July 3, 2018
June (Marshall) Woodhouse of Old Saybrook, CT and Naples, Florida and formerly Manchester, CT died peacefully on July 3rd after a long battle with Dementia. Born in Anderson, South Carolina on June 28, 1932 to Joseph and Vesta Marshall. She was predeceased by her husband of 49 years in 2004, Carlton F. Woodhouse. June grew up in Anderson South Carolina, graduated from the University of South Carolina and later earned her Master’s Degree from St. Joseph’s University. Upon graduating from college, June moved to Manchester, CT and began her teaching career. She went on to marry Carlton and raise their three children, Susan (Paul) Trzcinski of Mechanicville, NY, Bryan (Paula) Woodhouse of Oxford, CT, and Allison (John) Heneghan Hebron, CT. She also leaves nine adoring grandchildren, Michael (Jen) Trzcinski, Amy Sprague (Ryan), Alicia Mills (Will), Jacob Woolf, Paige Woodhouse, Taylor, Kylie and Ryan Heneghan as well as a newly born great- grandson Sonny Trzcinski. Her sister Vesta Cruser of Virginia Beach predeceased her in December 2017. She leaves behind her two cousins John Marshall and Lyman Marshall as well as many nieces and nephews whom she was very close to as well as numerous friends.
June touched many lives through her 30 years of teaching at both Bowers School as a second grade teacher and then as a Special Education Teacher at Keeney Street School, where she was chosen Teacher of the Year. In addition to teaching, June was extremely active in all of the communities she lived in through volunteer work at their local museums, schools, churches and food pantries. June loved spending time with her family, taking the grandchildren on adventures in her convertible, traveling with family, sitting on the beach in Naples or Cornfield Point reading a book, playing Bridge, going to plays, movies, and her grandchildren’s many activities as well as spending time with her numerous friends.
The family will receive guests at First Church of Christ in Old Saybrook, CT beginning at 10:00 am on Saturday, July 7th, followed by a Celebration of June’s life at 11:00 am. She will be buried at the Memorial Garden in Old Saybrook, CT. In lieu of flowers, donations in June’s name may be made to the Shoreline Soup Kitchens & Pantries, P.O. Box 804, Essex, CT 06426. Swan Funeral Home, Old Saybrook is in charge of her funeral arrangements.
