Marjorie Mary Crute

February 1, 1946July 26, 2018

Marjorie Mary (Cushing) Crute, age 72 of Old Saybrook, passed away peacefully on Thursday July 26th while surrounded by her loving family.

Born on February 1, 1946 to the late John and Marion Cushing of West Haven CT, Marge grew up in the town of West Haven and would always share stories of the neighborhood kids and having fun at Savin Rock. After graduating from high school, Marge held careers at Armstrong Tire and the West Haven VA. After marrying her first husband, Walter Saczynski Jr (deceased) , they moved to Guilford CT where they resided and raised their son for over 20 years.

Marge had a special love for children which inspired her to open “Marge’s Daycare” in the 80’s, teaching and taking care of many children up until the late 90’s. She held a special bond with many of these children and even after closing the business due to health reasons, she kept in touch with many of the families and was able to watch them grow into successful adults.

In the late 90’s, Marge remarried and moved to Old Saybrook CT where she and her husband, George Crute (deceased), were frequent travelers, boaters and spent their days enjoying life. Known as “Crab Lady”, Marge could be found either crabbing at the docks or simply enjoying the water on any given day. If she wasn’t by the water, she was spending time in her garden, watching the birds who had taken up residence in one of her many birdhouses, or taking pleasure in the company of her Sheltie, Misty. Among other things, she loved playing Bingo, watching the UConn girls basketball team, “tickling the ivories” on the family piano, crab rolls, and lobster dinners.

She is survived, and will be deeply missed, by her son, Brian (Mary) Saczynski of Clinton CT, granddaughters Victoria Saczynski and Kailynne Crute, grandson Sean Beach, brother Jim (Cindy) Cushing of North Haven CT, brother John (Gail) Cushing of Branford CT, nieces Tricia Cushing, Debbie Gannon, and Susan Cushing, nephews Robert and Craig Cushing, as well as many beloved friends. She will also be greatly missed by George’s sons, Barton and Jim Crute, along with Jim’s sons Bergren and Henry.

Her family wishes to thank all the Doctors, Specialists, the Visiting Nurses of Lower Valley, and Lower Valley Care Advocates for all their kindness and compassion while taking care of Marge, which allowed her to live her life to the fullest.

Calling hours will be at Swan Funeral Home in Old Saybrook CT on Tuesday August 21st between 4-7pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10am at St John’s Church in Old Saybrook CT on Wednesday August 22nd.

Brian, Mary and Victoria, I’m so sorry for your loss. Your mother was an amazing woman who was always so positive. My fondest memories of her were when we were kids sitting around the organ as she wailed away the tunes! You guys are in our thoughts and prayers. See you on the 21st.

Margie cared for both of my children at her daycare. My son was her last "baby" before she got ill and had to close. My girlfriends Cheryl and Kai stayed in touch with her over the years. She was such an important part of our children's life. I will miss her dearly. Liz Mancini

Brian, Mary and Victoria,

I am so sorry and sad to hear about Your mom/grandma She loved you all and told numerous stories every time I saw her, well maybe Victoria a wee bit more! OK, 99.9% Victoria! She loved to show the newest Facebook video or picture of skiing, dancing, mad face, etc....or a funny story of Victoria. One of my favorite memories “I have to show you this video...” said Marge one morning: Victoria took the iPad and did some selfie videos on the front porch “grandma I love you” “grandma I love you so so so much” “I love you grandma”. It was the cutest and grandma had the proudest smile!

I hope she and George are on the high seas up there catching lots of crab.

RIP crab lady, you will not be forgotten.

I will forever know you as my second Grandmother/mother figure. You and George are both unforgetable and are now together. You both taught me so much that has made me a better person. Thank you for that. To Brian, Mary and Victoria- I'm so sorry for your loss. Thinking of you during this difficult time. Marg will for sure be the angel looking over you all. You were the light of her life, as I'm sure you are aware. She bragged daily of you all ESP Victoria. May these words comfort you on the loss of your mother. I will always remember her sweet smile and beautiful nature.
