He was born in Bridgeport in 1952 to the late Edward and Joyce Matto of Fairfield. His fascination with trains began when he was a little boy and stayed with him throughout his life. He attended Roger Ludlowe High School before studying history at Fairfield University, and then going on to have a career as a craftsman, including starting his own business, Heritage Paint and Wallpaper, in 1996 and selling custom doors and windows at Home Depot in Waterford for over a decade.
He is survived by his sister, Janice Lesko of Fairfield, wife, Patricia Champagne Matto of Ivoryton, and stepdaughter, Missie Champagne of Avon. The mass and graveside service will be held at Grace Episcopal Church in Old Saybrook at 10 am on Saturday, May 10th.
