

Mary (Nigosanti) Cox, 90 of Safety Harbor, Florida and Westbrook, CT passed away on Saturday, March 15, 2014. She was predeceased by her husband Walter C. Cox, Jr. and her son William F. Cox. She was born in Woonsocket, Rhode Island on November 8, 1923 and was the daughter of the late Alfredo and Annunziata (Ridolfi) Nigosanti. Mary lived most of her life in Westbrook and for the past 25 years wintered in Safety Harbor, Florida.
She was secretary/treasurer of the Walter C. Cox Corp. Mary graduated from Old Saybrook High School with the class of 1942. She was a member of St Marks Roman Catholic Church of Westbrook and Espirito Santo Roman Catholic Church of Safety Harbor, Florida. A past president of Anderson Hoxsie American Legion Auxiliary Unit #103 and Chairman of Girl’s State for many years. Mary and Walter built the Westbrook Industrial Park and helped many businesses get their start. She assisted her husband with Soldier’s Sailors and Marine Services helping Westbrook veterans and their families and was a former member of the Westbrook Garden Club. She and her late husband Walter were honored by being mentioned in the “Westbrook History, Happenings and Hearsay”, written by the Westbrook Bicentennial Book Committee, published in 1976.
She leaves a daughter, Kathleen C. Johns of Westbrook, a grandson, Matthew W. Johns, his wife Alison and great grandson Ryan of Newington, CT, a granddaughter, Kimberly M. Johns of Charleston, South Carolina. Mary is also survived by a sister Inez Fanfrlik of Westbrook, brother-in-law Donald Brooks, Sr. of Old Saybrook. Also six nephews and five nieces. She was predeceased by her sister Lena Brooks of Old Saybrook, brother-in-law Frank Fanfrlik & nephew Ronald Fanfrlik of Westbrook, CT.
The funeral procession will assemble on Thursday March 20th at 9:30am at Swan Funeral Home, 1224 Boston Post Rd., Old Saybrook and will proceed to a 10:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mark’s Roman Catholic Church, 22 McVeagh Road, Westbrook, with burial to follow at the Cypress Cemetery, Westbrook. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, March 19 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Swan Funeral Home, 1224 Boston Post Road, Old Saybrook. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Mary N.
