Maureen McDermott

April 23, 1948 – August 21, 2026

Maureen “Moe” McDermott, a woman who defined secure attachment and loved with all her heart, passed away on August 21, 2026. Throughout her life, Maureen was a cornerstone of support, warmth, and unwavering dedication to her family, her friends, and her community.

A proud graduate of Hartford High School, Class of 1966, Maureen dedicated her life to the care and upliftment of others. Her early career reflected her deep love for children, beginning with running a home daycare from 1983 to 1986. She went on to support local youth within the Glastonbury school system, working at Buttonball and Eastbury Elementary Schools, before joining the Glastonbury Board of Education in 1989.

Maureen’s profound empathy and desire to serve led her to a distinguished 23-year career at InterCommunity Mental Health, from which she retired in 2013. There, she worked as a dedicated 1:1 care provider, offering direct, compassionate support to individuals in need. Demonstrating her characteristic determination and hands-on approach, she even earned her Commercial Driver’s License for passenger vans (CDL-P) to personally transport adults to community events, ensuring those in her care remained connected and engaged with the world around them.

At the center of Maureen’s life was her family. She was the beloved daughter of the late Delia and Peter McDermott. She shared over 56 years of marriage and deep partnership with her beloved husband, Robert Olschefskie. While she was predeceased by her loving son, Mark, and her brother, Peter, her legacy of love continues through her family: Mark’s wife, Kristin, and their children, Henry and Caperton; her daughter, Lea, and her husband, David Lockwood, and their children, Zoe and Delia; and her daughter, Melissa, and her husband, Marc DiGalbo, and their children, K and Connor. She is also survived by her two devoted brothers, Billy and Brian, along with a large, loving circle of brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews.

Maureen’s life was a testament to the power of connection, kindness, and unconditional love. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you honor her memory by doing something nice for someone else and thinking of Maureen. A Mass of Remembrance will be announced at a future date.
