My life is significantly better for having known you Mike.  It's almost been a year and you're still on my mind every day. I'm still inspired by your intelligence and philosophy. Anyone who got to know you was a very lucky person. There will never be another person on earth quite as unique and spirited as you, and I truly mean that. The world was a better place with you in it. You will never be forgotten my friend.

Michael was one of the most amazing people I have ever met in my entire life! He was so kind, caring, giving, adventurous, silly, spontaneous, enthusiastic, free-spirited, open-minded, he was just so overall amazingly wonderful! and I am so blessed to have known him and have him been such a huge part of my life! I am so blessed to be able to call him my absolute best friend & he will always be that to me! when he walked into my life about 10 years ago I knew right away that he was something else someone walking to the beat of his own drum and I knew instantly that our friendship would be forever & forever will it remain! 

Michael was the type of person that would give you the shirt off his own back the shoes off his feet just to make you smile, just to know he made a difference to someone. He saw life in such a beautiful way. he always saw the true beauty in everything he did in everyday! wether it was in the beauty of he earth, the sky, the beauty in all nature, or the beauty in the people he cared about, his family, his friends, or even complete strangers! He just always had such an amazing outlook on everything and I will never forget what he taught me or what he has done for me in my life, and I am so thankful & so blessed that I was able to get to know him in this way because without knowing him I honestly wouldn't be even close to the person I am today.

My world will never be the same without him & my heart will be forever broken. but I somehow find peace knowing he is free & knowing he is always close by...The day before his service I went to our favorite place to hang out and I sat for hours talking to him & I know he was close by because when I woke up in the morning to go say my final goodbye I looked up into the sky and saw him smiling down on me in the clouds! & I am so blessed that I was able to witness that moment & capture it with my camera so I am able to look at it when times are tough & remember he is always there. & so that I am able to share it with all who love him so very much so that everyone is able to remember as well!

I knew Mike for a few years, but I really got to know him when we worked together. I always remember him getting into wacky shenanigans and work. I took a trip to Belize with Mike in March of 2013. We all had the time of our lives. One of my fond memories of the trip is, on the first day I remember seeing Mike from a far, surrounded by a group of kids. From my vantage point it looked as if Mike was in danger about to get mugged or something, when I got closer I realized that wasn't the case. Mike had made some new friends. Mike gave one of the boys his iPod, and the boys followed Mike around as if he was their leader for the remainder of our time there. They accompanied us on day trips, showed up every morning and night looking for Mike. We referred to the boys as Michael's band of misfits.
I will always have the fondest of memories of Mike; he was a genuine, good hearted person that could always make you smile or laugh. He will be missed by all who got the pleasure of knowing him.

I knew Mike for a few years, but not that well until I worked with him. I enjoyed working with Mike because he always had some wacky shenanigans going on. He was a real pleasure to work with.
I went on a trip with Mike to Belize in March of 2013. I think that I speak for everyone on that trip that it was a blast. One memory I always have of the trip was, the first day or so I came upon Mike and he was surrounded by five or so of the local boys. From a distance I feared that Mike may be in some sort of danger, when I got closer I realized that was not the case. Mike had made some new friends. He gave the ring leader of the boys his old ipod, and the boys, or Michaels band of misfits (as we refered to them the rest of the trip) followed us everywhere. It was if Mike had become their new leader. The boys accompanied Mike and us on some of the day trips we went on. Every morning and night we were there, they were coming over looking for Mike.
I will always have the fondest memories of the times and adventures that I shared with Mike. He was a truly genuine, good hearted person, that had the ability to make anyone smile or laugh. He will be missed by all that knew him

I will never forget the first day I met him in 7th grade, he stayed after school for a detention and I stayed after for my after school activity and they both happened to be with the same teacher. the teacher put him in my group and I taught him how to make smoothies and then we had to walk around the halls hanging flyers for some upcoming event and he handed me the stapler and put a staple right through my finger!  I will never forget the countless times me and him hung out in the middle of the night, the long walks we took down town essex and to the cemetery  right near my house and we would just sit there by the water until morning and talk for hours! I remember Samantha and Michael came and picked me up one day so that we could go to a Maroon 5 concert. and we were running a little late, then we ended up getting lost, and Sam pulled into a Dunkin Donuts to get directions. but we decided that we would be too late for the concert so we just turned around and went back to his house. and instead me and Michael went out onto the back porch to watch a movie. and I remember him trying to convince Rita to let me stay the night because he didn't want me to go home. I'll never forget him coming over to surprise me when my mom first bought her house and I was in the middle of painting the kitchen and without saying a word he grabbed a roller and helped me finish. I have so many fond memories of him, I could write a book alone on the memories that I have with him! I can't even begin to explain the things that me and him have been through the past 10 years together between school, & suspensions, getting grounded & movies, prom, school dances, dates, so many firsts, fairs, concerts and so much more! Everything that we have ever done will always be a special and great memory that I will forever hold dear to my heart!!! 

I'll never forget his eyes, how beautiful, honest, innocent, & gentle they were, and him always telling me that I had his favorite eyes. I'm going to miss his infectious smile & his amazing laugh...I'm going to miss his crazy silly sense of humor. & I'm going to miss his hugs the most! Michael's hugs were the best because he would hold on so tight for what seemed like forever and he would make everything in the world would disappear, all my worries and stress would be gone and it was just us. I'll never forget his laugh, he had an amazing laugh & i loved his sense of humor! I will never forget my late night talks with him that lasted forever, He always knew just what to say or when not to say a thing! and i will always remember his infectious smile...his smile alone could light up a room! Michael Was truly one of the most amazing people that I have ever known, & he will forever live on in my heart and my memories! My Heart will be forever broken but my life forever changed! Not a second goes by that he doesn't cross my mind and I am so truly blessed to have known Michael!
I am so truly blessed to have him as my best friend and such a huge part of my life. His life was way too short & while he may be gone, he will never be forgotten! and he will forever remain very close to my heart! In the bottom of a pond lived some eggs who could not understand why none of their groups ever came back after crawling up the stems of lilies to the top of the water. They promised each other that the next one who was called to make the upward climb would return and tell what happened to him. Soon one of them felt an urgent impulse to seek the surface and the warmth of the sun; he rested himself on top of a lily pad and went through a glorious  transformation, which made him a dragonfly with beautiful transparent wings. He tried to keep his promise; he flew back and forth over the pond, he peered at his friends below; then he realized that even if they could see him they would not recognize such a radiant creature! Even in his transformation he felt his friends and family knew he existed! And in his heart he knew his family and friends saw that he flew above watching over them.

I got to know Michael through Nicole- meeting him for the first time at a 5K charity race in Madison, CT.  I remember him commenting on the fact that I was over-enthusiastic to bring my little dog Sammy along with us, but what stuck out to me was that he didn't pass judgment, but admired people for their differences.  I got to know Michael very well and enjoyed all of the time we were fortunate to spend together.  I call him one of my best friends because I was able to share with him more thoughts and feelings than I could with most people since he was open-minded and a true free-spirit.  There was never a dull moment with hanging out with Michael, and I always enjoyed our late-night adventures driving on CT back-roads, listening to music, chatting about anything that came to mind and eventually ending up at a natural destination.  My fondest memory with Michael was the time he took me off-roading on a crystal clear night- not a cloud in the sky.  We ended up parking his SUV over the shallow waters of Salmon River, climbed up onto the rooftop and gazed at the stars for hours talking about constellations and life beyond planet Earth.  When spending time with Michael, it was easy to forget about the everyday hustle and bustle we call life- and expand on the qualities of nature which made living so beautiful.  One time on a hike, he stopped abruptly, bent over and grabbed a fist full of moss.  “Do you smell that?” he asked me as he put the moss up to my nose, “that's Earth, pure bliss,” he concluded.  I had to just smile and agree because he was right.  The Earth was beautiful, but the day to day struggles were real.  Michael taught me so much about myself- how to look inward and challenged me to get to know myself better.  He is a beautiful soul whom I will never forget.  My stories, memories, thoughts and admiration for Michael is a never-ending list, and his spirit has forever touched my heart.  I believe that I met Michael in my dreams as a final farewell and feel blessed for that occurrence.  I picture Michael to be up in Heaven, adventuring, laughing and spreading love with God and his angels.  Rest easy kid, I'll see you up there.  Your friend forever -Emily


To Rita, Jim, Nicole and Samantha- Please know that Michael loved you so very much.  In the time that I spent with him- he would refer to you all with utmost compassion and appreciation, making it clear that his heart was full of love for you- his dear family.  Rita, Michael admired how hard-working, tender and sweet you are.  The way you care for people, especially your children and husband.  Jim, Michael always told me that he looked up to you so much and wished to be like you in everything that he did.  You set an excellent example for Michael and he appreciated that you never gave up on him and always pushed him to be the best he could be.  Nicole, Michael loved you for your witty and loving nature.  He enjoyed staying with you in East Haven and having the opportunity to work with you and travel to Belize with you and Chris.  What a blessing to have shared so many amazing memories together during his life.  I thank you for introducing me to Michael and encouraging the friendship amongst us.  Samantha- I know that Michael loved to spend time with you at your apartment, and would do anything for his sisters if you needed help.  It's not only that I observed his love for you all- but moreover, that he told me all of his feelings. At this time I'm sure he'd wish for nothing more than for you to know how much he loved you all.  Please be strong and connect with Michael through prayers, as God answers your questions at this time.  I pray that Michael's spirit will remain in the Lord's white lite as it had down here on Earth- he was such an amazing creation of God and I'm fortunate to call him my life-long friend. One 0f my favorite memories of Michael is him busting out of the back door, bare back with black jeans and cowboy boots and hat; jumping on his horse on springs, and with all the horse noises rode off into the sunset- we're going to miss your flare for life.

Michael was like the older brother I never got to have. He was my best friend, and someone I trusted everything with. He was so easy to talk to and understanding and knew what words to say or when only silence was needed. Together, him and I made some pretty fun memories. We would go running by the quarry together, sit in his room and watch movies, drive around blasting music or just sit on the couch and pour our hearts out to each other. He was always there to remind me that I'm strong and can overcome anything and I appreciated every second that I got to spend with him. I don't think I'd be half the person I am today if it wasn't for him. 
Michael was caring, loving, dependable, adventurous, creative, and determined. The world lost an amazing person on the day he passed, but heaven gained an incredible angel. I know that he's always going to be there to look out for me from up above, and I hope that I can make him proud.

To the Heroy Family,

I have been friends with Michael since the 7th grade. If I had to pick one memory with Michael I wouldn't because they were all so special to me. Having known him so long I have so many great memories to share and they all remain as equally wonderful and important to me. I remember when he came up to me on the first day of school while I was at my locker and he asked me if I would be his friend. I laughed and said I didn't even know who he was. He replied "Hi I'm Michael, do you want to be my friend now?" I laughed and said maybe another day. He smiled and said okay I'll be back tomorrow. Surely enough he was back the following day and asked me again as we walked to homeroom. After a week we became friends and actually ended up being in a lot of the same classes together. I loved how he complained about little things like when he accidentally got bleach on his new black sweater and ended up using a black sharpie to get rid of it. He always made me laugh even if it wasn't intentional. I loved that he felt comfortable to asked me to tutor him in personal finance because he wanted to do well and graduate with a good grade. Simple little things like that made my day and made our friendship grow stronger. I loved that he could tell me anything and I could do the same without any judgement. I loved that he took me for a ride on his motorcycle last summer because he knew it was on my bucket list and that I was always around to hangout with him. I loved that I use to bump into him at Cumberland Farms at 11:30 at night and end up talking for hours. Michael is and will always be my best friend. I know that even now he is still with us no matter where we are and he will always have a place in my heart <3.

Mike was a great friend who was always there to do anything for anybody he cared about. He was always there for me and knew how to make me laugh. He was caring, compassionate, and especially charismatic and unique. He was always there to help but he was especially helpful in the car department. He was there to jump start my old car countless times over the years. He was one of the greatest friends I've ever had and I wish I hadn't taken him for granted. I'll miss him terribly.

I first met Mike in John Winthrop. We became best friends immediately. We were inseperable in between classes and always passing notes in class. He had a comeback to every smart remark, and wise advice when it came to me and my "boy problems". He was that guy bestfriend every girl wish they had and I was lucky enough to be his. He attempted to teach me to play guitar and somehow talked me into trying to ride his dirtbike. He sat through all my girly movies and listened to everything I had to say. Unfortunately I moved away and we didnt keep in touch as well as I wished we did. But I will always know him as my bestfriend and someone that I loved dearly we had a lot of firsts together and I'm thankful that he chose me as his friend.

Michael helped me so much in high school.  He showed me where all of my classes were and always kept me company in the morning.  I would walk in exhausted at 7 am and see his beaming smile.  He was always so energetic.  I was able to talk to him when something was bothering me, and he helped me with my school work during one of our classes.  Michael also gave the best hugs.  Every single one he gave was sincere, loving, and a mood-changer.  I could never be in a bad mood around him.  He will forever be in my heart and his memory will remain strong.  He left a powerful footprint on this earth.  Words can't describe my condolences.

Mike was always my best friend, and I'll always hold all of his words of advice to heart. I'll always remember how he would drive me around all over the state just to talk and have fun. or when he took me on my first motorcycle ride without batting an eye. He was an amazing and sincere guy who always put others first just to make sure they were happy.

I had the privilege of having Michael (and Samantha)as reading/writing students in my sixth grade classroom at DRES. As I reflect on Michael as one of my former students, my heart ressurrects memories of an adolescent young man who tried his best each day and worked hard for me and also for Mrs. Degree, as we worked closely together. I have three adult children and I cannot tell you what you must be feeling during this time of losing your dear son. I can however, assure you that I serve our Creator God with assurance that He is a loving, gracious, merciful and unchanging God and Savior to all who would come to believe and know Him personally.  May you find comfort and strength in His promise to each of us: "Let not your hearts be troubled. You believe in God, believe also in Me (Jesus Christ). In my Father's house are many mansions. If it were not so I would have told you. I go to prepare a place that where I am, there you may be also." Please rest in the promise that Michael is loved by a gracious God. May you come to a place of quiet rest and peace in and through Christ Jesus.

Been at a complete loss for words, but Michael was always a great kid and we've had some great talks and great times. Heroy family - I am beyond saddened about Mike's passing. I haven't seen him in about 15 years but I remember him being such a happy and active kid.  I remember him working on old cars with Jim and climbing up and down trees. From looking at the pictures posted from being young and as he grew up - you can see he was a sweet kid that was so caring, everyone loved and loved being active and outdoors. I will always remember him as such a sweet and careing man. I am so sad that we didnt talk that much. But as he might not have known he helped me thro alot of high school. No one liked me.
