December 14, 1924December 31, 2020

Nancy Ball Pelton, of Madison and formerly of Old Saybrook and Windsor, passed away peacefully on December 31, 2020. She was a proud member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and a devoted wife for over 60 years to heroic WWII veteran, the late Hudson Chandler Pelton. Her family is extremely grateful for the loving care she received from the entire staff at the Hearth at Tuxis Pond.

Nancy was born on December 14, 1924, in Hartford, the daughter of William and Margaret Ball. She lived in Windsor and attended school at The Mount before completing her secretarial degree at Katie Gibbs School in Boston. Nancy worked in several secretarial positions including the Windsor Public Schools, before devoting herself to the care of her two daughters and her pursuit of volunteer work at Hartford Hospital where she was recognized for her many years of loyal service. She also loved reading and gardening and was an active member of the African Violet Society. Nancy and her late husband "Bud" also enjoyed golfing at Millbrook Golf Course where she served as Women's Club President.

After retiring, Nancy and Bud moved to Old Saybrook where she began working at Pilot's Point Marina assisting with secretarial and accounting duties. In addition she spent countless hours, well into her 80's, volunteering at the Heat and Eat Program at First Church of Old Saybrook. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her growing family.

Nancy, or "Mame" as she was lovingly called by her family, leaves behind her two daughters and a son-in law, Penny Schelling of San Luis Obispo, CA, and Beth Borden and her husband Ken of Niantic; five beloved granddaughters and son-in-laws, Emily Schelling and Jonathan Trutt of Portland, OR; Amanda and Mark Getten of San Luis Obispo, CA; Katie and Doug Slocum, also of San Luis Obispo, CA; Caitlin Fenn of Boston, MA; and Colleen and Taner Ulke of Philadelphia, PA, and six great grandchildren, Rachel, Natalie, Isaac, Kai, Julia and Hana. She also leaves her sister-in-law, Dorothy Ball of Windsor and three nieces and a nephew, their spouses and offspring. In addition to her husband, Nancy was predeceased by her brother Warren Ball of Windsor.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Nancy's memory can be made to the Heat and Eat Program of FIrst Church in Old Saybrook, 366 Main Street, Old Saybrook, CT 06475. A private memorial service will be held at a later date when her family can gather to celebrate her life.

I always enjoyed talking with Nancy when she volunteered at the food pantry. In our conversations we found that her granddaughter Caitlin and my daughter Jessica played on the same aau basketball team. So of course we always talked basketball. She was a very sweet lady!

Larry and I offer our deepest sympathy to the family on their loss of Nancy. Nancy was a wonderful, warm and caring person. Her husband, Bud, was related to my father, Richard Bond, whose mother was Addie Pelton. It had been very nice to get to know Nancy when we met at First Church many years ago. Peace be with you all.
