Norma Johnson, 93, of Westbrook, CT passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 3rd surrounded by her loving family. Norma was predeceased by her beloved husband David W. Johnson (Big D) and her daughter Christy L. Hansen. She was born in Mandal, Norway as the only child of Mr. & Mrs. John M. Jacobsen and was very proud of her Norwegian heritage.
Norma, or Normie as she was affectionately called, was the matriarch of the Johnson family, always at the epicenter of family gatherings or events. Normie was quick to whip up a feast for all on a moment’s notice and no one left her table hungry. She lived a full life surrounded by the love and affection of family, friends and her wonderful neighbors. Normie and Dave moved from Scarsdale, NY to Westbrook in 1983 and never looked back. They enjoyed everything that the CT Shoreline had to offer in retirement, especially the time spent with family at their beach house, The Tilt’in Hilton.
Norma is survived by her son, David W. Johnson, Jr., daughter-in-law Robin; granddaughter Caitlin, great-grandchildren Luke and Kade; grandson Gregory and his wife Ali.
She is also survived by her son, Steven J. Johnson, daughter-in-law Donna; granddaughter Taylor and her husband Noel, great-granddaughter Harper; grandson Michael and his wife Emily.
Dave, Steve and family would like to thank the nursing staff at Middlesex Hospital for their adoring care in Norma’s final days.
At Norma’s request there will be no fuss after her passing. A graveside service will be held at a later date for the immediate family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hospice team at Middlesex Health, the ASPCA, St. Judes or any charity of your choice.
