Patrice Anne Caval Smart

April 16, 1958 – February 12, 2021

Patrice Anne Caval Smart, 62, of Manchester, formerly of Newington and Marlborough, passed away after a short illness on February 12, 2021 at the St. Francis Hospital in Hartford.

Patrice was born on April 16, 1958, in New Britain, the daughter of John Caval Sr. and Julia "Olga" (née Demko) Caval. She was raised in Newington and attended Newington High School, Class of 1976.

Patrice was a free spirit. She enjoyed attending concerts, being with friends, and spending time in Wellfleet, MA at her summer home. She loved to play board games, especially Scrabble. She was an animal lover, having had over 16 adopted animals in her lifetime. She was a devoted mother who loved and cared for not only her daughter, but her daughters friends.

Patrice is survived by her daughter Emily Smart of Taftville; brother William Caval and sister-in-law Linda Caval (née Niederfringer) of North Palm Beach, FL; sister-in-law Leatrice Caval (née Eisenhauer) of Stuart, FL; nieces and nephew Julia Bonafine, Sara Bonafine-Schulz, Cheryl Caval, and Paul Caval. She is predeceased by her sister Alexandra Caval and brother John Caval Jr.

Rest in Peace Patrice. We met at Old Saybrook as kids but lost contact when we moved away. Finding you on FB a few years ago was a blessing. I will always remember our funny chats during this time. You will be missed, you are loved.

Patrice was such a warm soul the short few years I’ve known her I’ve grown to love her like family. We talked and shared stories and she gave me “Fluffy” Spike I love him and am grateful to Patrice for the opportunity to become his mom she will always be mom #1 in his eyes and you could see it when he would visit for a play date. We will miss her and love her. Til we meet again!

We so enjoyed spending time with our "hubbies" poolside forever ago! Then the hugest upgrade to your shoreline summer home in Wellfleet, Cape Cod!

The love and kindness you showed me through the years & specifically more recently will be cherished & held in my heart until we meet again. I'm sorry I never expressed with words, as I should have, how much you've always meant to me for a plethora of obvious reasons. I hope you know how much you've always meant to me. PatRice girl about town! We just reminiscent abt ole days. Ur generosity towards everyone. Thomas. Shabo. Wellfleet,
CapeCod. Tall Xmas trees @ Ur house. Ur family. Cool shirts from concerts. All the dogs U rescued. Civil Rights. Ur precious Emily!
Next time we'll do it differently.
Maybe we'll get it right! I will be greatly missing U 'til we meet again! Wellfleet or Bust!

I’ve known Patrice since we were great friends in elementary school. I think I spent more time at her home than I did my own, both in Newington and Old Saybrook. She was a fun loving rebel even back then!
My sincere condolences to her daughter and her entire family and friends. My thoughts and prayers are with Patrice and all who loved her.
