OBITUARY

Robert J. Hedberg

October 12, 1952June 25, 2020

Robert “Bob” James Hedberg, 67, of Old Saybrook, CT, passed away on June 25, 2020 at Middlesex Hospital, after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease. Born in Santa Monica, CA to the late Robert & Evelyn Hedberg, Bob spent his early years in California to later settle in Hamden, CT. He was married to the late Mary Jane Hedberg for over twenty years. Bob was lucky enough to find love again with his wife Joan Ecklund after Mary Jane’s passing, and they have enjoyed the past thirteen years together.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sons, Andrew "Drew" Hedberg, his wife Samantha of East Haddam, CT, Christopher “CJ” Hedberg and his wife Michaela of Fairhaven, MA, and his stepdaughters, Kathryn Anderson of Branford, CT and Kimberly Ryerson and her husband Brandon of Yucca Valley, CA. "Poppy" enjoyed spending time with his three grandchildren, Charlotte Hedberg, Chloe Hedberg and Grayson Hedberg and laughed at all their crazy shenanigans when they were together.

He attended Amity High School and then Southern Connecticut State University and graduated with a dual major in Economics and Fine Arts. He spent much of his career in the print and advertising world, most recently with Sir Speedy Marketing & Printing which later became Mosaic Marketing & Printing, from which he retired.

Bob was active in the Boy Scouts of America all of his life and was an Eagle Scout. He loved his time as a Scout Master of Drew and CJ's troops and was extremely proud of them both becoming Eagle Scouts themselves. He loved sharing many stories about their escapades. Bob was most happy outdoors. He loved fishing, tending to his flower gardens and spending time with his dogs throughout the years. A perfect summer day was spent at the beach with his toes in the sand, body surfing or boogie boarding, and snacking on Oreos and Fritos! He also had a love for the arts and enjoyed time in museums and more recently attending art fairs and going antiquing. Bob will be remembered for his big heart and quick wit.

The family will have a private service at the beach but plan to celebrate Bob's life with a reception for close friends and family in Old Saybrook at a time to be determined later in the summer.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Bob's memory to: Boy Scouts of America, Connecticut Yankee Council https://donations.scouting.org/#/council/072/appeal/2738
