Ron was born on November 21, 1946 in Hartford, CT to Robert and Eileen (Kennedy) Durie. A native of West Hartford, Ron lived in Cromwell for many years before settling in Westbrook, CT.
Ron is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Linda; his children, Kristyn Zalota and her husband Maxim of Munich, Germany, and Brendan Durie and his wife Kristin of Seattle, Washington; and his beloved grandchildren Nikolai, Nadya, Marleigh, Hattie, and Desmond. He also leaves behind his sisters-in-law Laurie and Patti, brothers-in-law Roger and Alan, and many nieces and nephews.
After graduating from Conard High School in 1964, Ron went on to Fairfield University, graduating in 1968, and later received his MBA from the University of Connecticut in 1972.
Ron proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War (1969-1970), an experience and service that remained deeply important to him throughout his life.
Ron spent 45 years in healthcare accounting, working first with the State of Connecticut, then Arthur Anderson, and finally Blum Shapiro in Hartford.
Ron incorporated his three 'G's' into his daily life: God, Golf, and the Gym. A devout Catholic, he attended Sunday Mass at St. Mark's and weekday morning Mass at St. Mary's in Clinton.
He was an avid sports fan. He loved the New York Yankees and most of all, the UCONN Huskies. Ron was always involved in Cromwell youth sports and was a founding member of the Cromwell Athletic Club.
Ron had a remarkable ability to connect with everyone he met. Whether it was his daily coffee stop, running errands around town, or cheering at local sports games, he made genuine friendships everywhere he went. His quick wit and sincere interest in others brought joy to everyone who knew him.
Ron was a good man who touched many lives with his kindness and humor. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
A celebration of life mass will be held on Saturday, December 20th at St. Mark's Church in Westbrook, CT at 10:00AM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation (cholangiocarcinoma.org) in honor of Vincent DiMauro, who holds a special place in the Durie family and is currently undergoing cancer treatment.
