Some get their wings In Heaven, Rose took her wings with her on Oct. 25, 2020. Rose Gray Spingola, formerly of Westbrook, was born in Sept. 1943 in Paisley, Scotland. She graduated high school at the age of 16 and worked right away at a paint and wallpaper store, then for a convalescent home. She was then employed with Lord and Lady Argylle outside Glasgow, working as a server for dinner parties and gatherings. The Crown Hotel in Dunoon was where she would meet Gordon Rich of Guilford, CT who was in the U.S. Navy. Rose would come to the U.S. in 1963 to marry Gordon and began raising their family. Mark Keith Rich was born in July 1963, only to be on this earth for 11 days before passing.
Rose temporarily worked at the Labor Department (Westbrook Armory Location) and soon after was hired by the L.C. Doane Co. in 1978. She started in the sales department and worked her way into payroll and administration, until her retirement in 2009. Rose was very proud to obtain her U.S. Citizenship in 1997.
After retirement, Rose enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, working in her yard, and making sure she always kept her feathered friends well fed! She especially loved her cat, Ernie.
Rose is survived by her daughter, Debra Rich (and Colin) of Moodus and her son, Brian Rich (and Porsha) of Guilford. She also leaves behind her granddaughters, Alexandria Fay Whitman and Katherine Rose Rich, both of Guilford, and her daughter-in-law Rachel Rich, also of Guilford. Also Chris Spingola of Meriden, her beloved grand-dog Macy, and extended family in Scotland. Rose’s kind soul and gentle nature will greatly be missed.
Rose was predeceased by her current husband, Charles Spingola of East Haddam, whom she married in 1980, and her sister Annie Cairns of Scotland.
Rose’s family would like to thank Stay at Home Health Care, Riverside Health and Rehab, Water’s Edge Center for Health and Rehab, and Constellation Hospice for all their care and compassion provided to Rose.
Memorial donations can be made to Rose’s favorite charities, Forgotten Felines, P.O. Box 734, Clinton, CT 06413, or Estuary Council of Seniors, 220 Main St, Old Saybrook, CT 06475.
Swan Funeral Home in Clinton is in charge of Rose’s memorial service, which is being planned for a later date.
