Sally Ann O’Brien Zavaglia Sally Ann O’Brien Zavaglia, 60, of Old Saybrook, Connecticut, passed away peacefully on July 28, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. Born on October 14, 1965, in Old Saybrook, she was the daughter of Carol Marcolini and George O’Brien.

Sally dedicated many years of her life to caring for others. She worked at TJ’s Restaurant in Old Saybrook, where she formed lasting friendships and was grateful to work alongside wonderful people and for a boss she respected and admired. She also found great fulfillment in caring for the elderly, a reflection of her compassionate nature and the kindness she showed throughout her life.

Sally’s greatest joy was her family. She was a loving and devoted mother to Ashley Senn, Nicole D’Orio, and Matthew D’Orio. After the loss of Matthew ten years ago, Sally carried his memory with her while continuing to show strength, love, and devotion to those closest to her. She shared a special bond with her sister, Julie O’Brien, and was a devoted stepdaughter to Joanne O’Brien. Sally had a deep love for animals, especially her beloved dog, Nina. Nina was more than a pet; she was Sally’s constant companion and a cherished part of her family. Sally loved taking Nina to the dog park and bringing her along wherever she went.

Those who knew Sally will remember her for her caring heart, loyalty, and the joy she found in the simple moments of life. She was a devoted fan of Morgan Wallen, enjoyed the things that brought her happiness, and had a way of creating meaningful connections with the people around her.

She is survived by her daughters, Ashley Senn and Nicole D’Orio; her sister, Julie O’Brien; her stepmother, Joanne O’Brien; along with extended family and dear friends who will forever cherish her memory.

She was predeceased by her beloved son, Matthew D’Orio.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a graveside service at Cypress Cemetery, date and time will be posted once confirmed.
