On the morning of Sunday, August 31, Stella Marie St.Cyr passed away with her beloved friend Carol & caregiver, by her side. Stella was recently diagnosed with terminal cancer. Her wish was to stay in her home & remain as independent as long as she could. Everything possible was done to fulfill her wish. The last two weeks of her life, she received 24/7 hospice care. Stella remained courageous & independent in spirit, until the end. She was deeply appreciative of family who came to visit her during her illness. She will be deeply missed by all who knew & loved her.
Stella was predeceased by her parents & two brothers, Paul & Victor. She leaves behind 5 brothers & sister in laws. Richard of NY, David St.Cyr & Polly Hilaire of NH, George & Sandy of Nevada, Louie & Diane of Vt and Roger & Margaret of Vt. Being the only girl in a family of 7 boys, she was dearly loved by each of them. She was a beloved aunt to numerous nieces & nephews.
Stella was born in Manchester N.H. to Victor Sr. & Cecile St.Cyr on June 11,1940. Her parents moved to Cambridge Vt in 1947. She attended school there & graduated from Cambridge High School in 1959. Stella remained in the area working at various jobs until she moved to Hartford Conn where she found a job at a printing company. She eventually was hired at Aetna Insurance as an administrative assistant & type setter. She retired in 2003 & moved to Berlin Connecticut. Her last move was to Westbrook Conn, a lovely seaside village on Long Island Sound. She enjoyed being close to the ocean & was very content living at Worthington Manor. Stella also enjoyed traveling throughout her life, spending time in Portugal, Spain, Hawaii, Canada, Mississippi, California & New Hampshire.
Stella was very close to her mother & frequently visited her in Vermont for many years. She especially enjoyed family gatherings at Christmas & Mother's Day. Stella had a generous heart & would do anything for family & friends. She was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. She encountered many wonderful people after moving away from home. In particular, the Portal family, whom she remained close to. Maria Bina Portal & Jon Nicoll were especially dear to her & the three of them spent a lot of time together. There were also many residents in her complex in Westbrook whom she maintained friendships with. A very special, kind & compassionate friend, Carol Walker, spent a lot of time with Stella. They enjoyed one another's company & engaged in many social activities. Carol remained by her side as Stella's health declined & sat vigil on the day she passed. The family is deeply grateful for her devotion & friendship.
The family would like to express their gratitude to David & Polly for their numerous trips to Conn to provide assistance to Stella. Especially Polly, who graciously took on the role of contact/coordinator & kept the family informed throughout Stella's illness. Also to the residents of Worthington Manor, who were so kind & caring to Stella & the family, thank you. The family would also like to thank the Hospice caregivers & nurses. Their professional, compassionate care allowed Stella to remain in her home.
A celebration of life will be held in Westbrook, for the residents of her apartment complex, on Saturday September 13, 2025.
A funeral Mass will be held on October 25, 2025 at 11:00 at St. Mary's Church, in her hometown of Cambridge, Vt.
Donations in Stella's memory can be made to a charity close to her heart, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
