Theodore J. Pigeon Jr.
September 13, 1927 – August 15, 2019
Theodore J. Pigeon, Jr., 91, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on August 15, 2019 after a short illness. Ted was born September 13,1927 at Backus Hospital in Norwich, Ct.
He was the third child of Ruth and Theodore Pigeon, Sr. Ted lived in Groton and then in Old Saybrook for over 60 years. He retired from the State of Connecticut Highway crew in 1978 and then went on to be the Sexton at Grace Episcopal Church in Old Saybrook for 15 years and then volunteered at the Senior Center in Old Saybrook for over 25 years. There he took water color classes, chair yoga and was a devoted volunteer for the Meals on Wheels program where he packed the meals to be delivered three days a week. Ted loved to do 1,000 piece picture puzzles. He helped to start a men's bible study that in later years met at Luigi's for lunch and bible study. He was a man of great faith. Ted had a wonderful smile, a great sense of humor, and was loved by everyone he met.
Ted was predeceased by his parents, sisters Muriel P. Rushman and Shirley P. Bryant and his nephew Ronald Bryant. Ted leaves his next-door neighbors of over 42 years, Sallie and Robert Boody and Marta Kurczab. After his nephew died Ted referred to Sallie, Robert, Marta and Tilly as his "guardian Angels" who made it possible for him to live on his own in his house until a month ago. Ted wanted very much to live until he was 100 and even though he received a new pacemaker in January, with a battery life of 13 years, it was not to be.
Ted's burial will take place in Cypress Cemetery, College Street, Old Saybrook, on Tuesday, August 20th at 10:30 a.m. A memorial service will be held following the burial at Grace Episcopal Church on Main street, Old Saybrook at 11 am. Ted loved the Senior Center in Old Saybrook. He had a whole family of great friends there. In lieu offlowers, donations may be made in his name to: Estuary Council of Seniors, 220 Main Street, Old Saybrook, CT 06475.
