Unclaimed Veterans Ceremony

Four Veterans whose cremated remains have been unclaimed were laid to rest with help from the Swan Funeral Homes of Old Saybrook, Clinton and Madison. These funeral homes are proud members of the Dignity Memorial® network of funeral, cremation and cemetery providers.

The funeral service was held at the Swan Funeral Home, located at 1224 Boston Post Rd. in Old Saybrook, at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 15, 2015. The remains were transported to the State Veterans Cemetery on Bow Lane in Middletown, where they were laid to rest with full military honors in a service at 1 p.m.

“The Missing in America Project has been working with Dignity Memorial providers to identify these forgotten Veterans and ensure they receive the honors in death that their service in life merited,” said Emily Mannise, the general manager for the Swan Funeral Home. “We’re honored to work with the Missing in America Project to provide the dignified military burial these Veterans deserve.”

The purpose of the Missing in America Project is to locate, identify and inter the unclaimed cremated remains of American Veterans through the joint efforts of private, state and federal organizations and to provide honor and respect to those who have served this country by securing a final resting place for these forgotten heroes.
