Viola Wanzer Maxfield, of Old Saybrook, passed away, at home. Some of you may know that since her husband's passing five weeks ago, Viola ll, has been failing. At a few minutes past midnight on Thursday, April 18, she crossed the bar to be reunited with Earl, her husband and soul mate of 68 + years. Her deep faith in Christ assures us that our separation is only temporary. She was comfortable, in her own home and had her family by her side as she passed. It was very peaceful and the last words she herd as she went was how much she was loved.
Viola was born on September 29, 1928, on Staten Island, NY, the daughter of Walter Westley Wanzer and Viola G. (Spence) Wanzer.
Viola is survived by her daughter Viola Tagliatela and her husband Stephen of Old Saybrook; son Mitchell Maxfield and his wife Lorraine of Vero Beach, FL; nieces, nephews, loving grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, April 19th from 5-8pm at Swan Funeral Home, 1224 Boston Post Rd., Old Saybrook. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 20th at 10am in Emmanuel Baptist Church, Old Boston Post Rd., Old Saybrook. Burial will follow in Cypress Cemetery, Old Saybrook.
In lieu of flowers I think my Mother would appreciate donations to either of the following:Valley Shore Animal Welfare League, 647 Horse Hill Road, Westbrook, CT 06498 or the hospice group that provided such outstanding care in her final weeks: Middlesex Hospice and Palliative Care, 28 Crescent Street, Middletown, CT 06457.
Viola and Mitch, want to thank all of you for the support that you have been to us through these difficult days and for the love and friendship that you shared with our parents over the course of their 90 years of life.
