

Vivian Ann Chaplin was born on October 17, 1932, in Maywood, IL, Vivian grew up in Maywood and graduated from Proviso East High School. She married Gordon R. Mittelhauser on May 5, 1951, in Melrose Park, Illinois. Gordon passed away on August 19, 1979. She later married James W. Chaplin on May 3, 1985.
Vivian was a loving wife and devoted homemaker who took great pride in caring for her husband and children, creating a warm and welcoming environment for all who knew her. Her quiet strength, kindness, and generous spirit touched the lives of those around her.
She was a dedicated secretary at the Deland Branch of Bank of America (formerly known as Barnett Bank) before retiring.
She is survived by her husband, James W. Chaplin; her children, Richard Mittelhauser of Palm Bay, Florida; Robert Mittelhauser of Old Saybrook, Connecticut; Denise Sakkestad of Manalapan, New Jersey; Glen Mittelhauser of Gouldsboro, Maine; and James Lee Chaplin of Fort White, Florida; and her grandchildren, Kyle, Erika, Brianna, Angelina, Celeste, Samantha, Stacey, Stephanie, Pepin, Jamie, Sharon and Scott.
Predeceased by her parents, Edward Arndt and Margaret Brakrog; her husband, Gordon Mittelhauser; her brother, Donald Arndt; and her sister, Jeanette Hampton/Martin (Mittelhauser). She is also predeceased by her sister in law Jeanette Hampton-Martin (Mittelhauser) and Step Daughter Kathy Chaplin.
There will also be a visitation at Deltona Memorial Funeral Home, located at 1295 Saxon Blvd, Orange City, FL 32763, on November 1, 2025, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
A visitation will be held at Swans Funeral Home, Old Saybrook, CT, on November 5, 2025, from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m., followed by a graveside service at Riverview Cemetery in Old Saybrook, CT.
