

William Robert Jardine of Cromwell, CT formerly of Old Saybrook, passed away peacefully on April 26, 2026, at the age of 93. BIll was born on August 30, 1932 to the late James and Marjorie Jardine in Hartford CT.
Bill graduated from Ellsworth High School in South Windsor, CT, Class of 1951. BIll went on to serve in the United States Army, with an Honorable Discharge on the 31st day October 1960. While in the Army, Bill earned the Korean Service Medal Bronze Stars, Presidential Unit Citation, United Nations Service Medal, and the National Defense Service Medal. On December 29,2010 Secretary of the State of Connecticut, Susan Bysiewicz, presented Bill a public service award: “In recognition of your exemplary service and unwavering courage during this nation’s struggle to preserve freedom during the Korean War. This award is a token of our deep gratitude to you for your patriotism and sacrifice.”
Bill had a successful career with The Mattabassett District for twenty-eight years, retiring as a Shift Supervisor. Bill received numerous employee recognition letters, and passed many State of Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection certifications relative to water facility management.
Bill was predeceased by his beloved wife of thirty-eight years, Margaret. BIll and Margaret resided in Knollwood, surrounded by a community of life long friends and neighbors. BIll was never far from his faithful dog, Lucky. Together they would take long walks by the beach, or Lucky would simply rest by Bill’s chair as he read the newspaper or watched television. BIll enjoyed traveling, especially memorable vacations to the Adirondack Mountains and Amish Country. BIll had a passion for reading history books, strumming his guitar, an enthusiastic sports fan of the New England Patriots and Boston Red Sox, and appreciated a Sunday matinee at the Ivoryton Playhouse.
BIll will be deeply missed and forever remembered. A Christian burial and Military Honors Ceremony will be held on Saturday, May 9, 2026, 12:00PM, at Riverside Cemetery, 59 Sheffield Street, Old Saybrook, CT.
