William F. Whaley, Jr., 56, of Deep River, died August 31, 2011 surrounded by his loving family after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was the beloved husband of Janet Whaley. Bill was born on December 23, 1954 in Orange, NJ, son of Diane M. Whaley and the late William F. Whaley. He attended Southern Connecticut State University. Bill was a dedicated and hardworking employee of Tilcon CT in Wallingford for many years. He was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church in Chester. Bill was extremely devoted to his family and a loyal friend to many. A life-long fan of the New York Mets and New York Giants, Bill was a sports enthusiast who enjoyed coaching and watching his children's sports teams. He will be remembered mostly for his strength and courage, his lightheartedness, and his many practical jokes. In addition to his wife and mother, Bill is survived by his three children, Natalie, Meredith, and James, all of Deep River. He is also survived by three sisters, Lola Rathbone of Milford, NY, Lauren Hession of Madison, and Leslie Whaley of Cromwell; and his three brothers, James Whaley of Deep River, Kurt Whaley of Magnolia, MA, and Todd Whaley of Stratford; and many nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, September 7, at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church in Chester. Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery in Westbrook. Calling hours will be Tuesday, September 6 from 6-8 p.m. at the Swan Funeral Home, 1224 Boston Post Road, Old Saybrook.
