Ann Rogers Thurston Askew

Ann Rogers Thurston Askew, 81, of Elizabeth City, NC entered Heavens Garden Tuesday, August 20, 2019 at Elizabeth City Health and Rehabilitation. She was born November 28, 1937 in Old Town, ME to the late Guy J. Thurston and Madeline M. Rogers Thurston and was the widow of Thomas Harrell and John W. Askew, Jr. Ann graduated from Old Town High School in 1956 and Continental Beauty School in 1972. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and caregiver for her late husbands. She was a retired seamstress who enjoyed traveling, gardening, dancing, country music, and volunteering at the senior center teaching crafts. She rarely passed up the opportunity to play bingo, go bargain shopping, or eat a lobster roll. Ann spent the majority of her adult life living in North Carolina, but was a true Mainer at heart and frequently made the trip to visit with family and friends. She is survived by children, Rhonda Mayer and husband Greg, Belinda Arnold, Donna Dean and husband Keith, Katrina Barnes and husband Bob, Rodney Young and wife Cathy, Gary Harrell and wife Vickie, Mike Harrell and wife Judy, and J. W. Askew, III and wife Anne; brother Roy Thurston and wife Janet; twin brother Alan Thurston and wife Betty; sixteen grandchildren, Rachel Mayer, Sam Mayer, Alicia Arnold, Wayne Arnold, Jeffrey Arnold, Bruce Stallings, Heather Ambrose, Joseph Ambrose, Jessica Ambrose, Bobby Barnes, Brandi Barnes, Cody Young, Kyle Young, Shelbi Young, Lacey Kilgore, and Taylor Harrell; nine great grandchildren, Kai, Brycen, Brayden, Brandon, Mason, Elaina, Griffin, Josh, and Kenny; a host of nieces and nephews; and her loyal dog companion Jack Askew. She was pre-deceased by a sister, Nona Sibley; a brother, Robert J. Thurston; and a son-in-law Jerry W. Arnold. Family and friends are invited to call from 2-4pm on Saturday, September 28, 2019, at Birmingham Funeral Home, 438 Main St. Old Town, where a memorial service will be held at 3pm, with Rev.
