It is with great sorrow that we announced the passing of our dad Arthur W. “Art” Knapp, 97, who died peacefully June 26, 2022 at his residence with family by her side. Arthur was born January 10, 1925 in Bradley son of Walter and Lena (Coulter) Knapp.
He graduated from Old Town High School class of 1943 and served in the US Navy during World War II and then with the United States Air Force during the Korean conflict. He retired from James River, Old Town after 41 years of employment. He was a member of VFW post 3381 of Old Town, American Legion Post 84 of Orono, and an honorary member of Knights of Columbus #2537 of Old Town. He was a communicant of St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Bradley. He will be forever missed as a devoted husband and father. Art enjoyed all kinds of sports and was an avid golfer with his friends at Hermon Meadows golf course where he achieved his third hole-in-one at the age of 93. He enjoyed many years of great fishing at the Knapp family camp on Chemo Pond in Eddington as well as square dancing with great friends and snowmobiling with family. In 2017 he received the Boston Post cane and I are given to the older Citizen in Bradley at a standing room only celebration at the Bradley Townhall.
He is survived by his daughter Carol Resemini and her husband Jack of Holbrook New York; special sister-in-law GeeGee Richards and her husband Gordon of Old Town. He was lovingly called “Grampy” by six grandchildren Lisa Hall and her wife Christine Parr, Christopher Hall and his wife Stephanie, Kasey Massaro and husband Paul, Stephanie Hall all of New Hampshire and John Resemini and Tina Hager and her husband Jason of New York; he was a great grandfather to Rebecca, Gianna, Dominic, Greer, Rob and Ryan all of New Hampshire and Lena and Lexi of New York. He leaves behind two special nieces Beth Morin and her husband Kevin and Laurie Petrie and her husband Stephen, nephews Thomas Lavoie and his wife Skye and Richard Kimball along with several other nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his beloved wife of 78 years Alvena “Vin” Knapp on March 10, 2022, daughter Linda Hall in March 2021; sister Phyllis Kimball and her Husband Everett; three brothers-in-law and their wives Roland and Ida Lavoie, Vinal and Mavis Lavoie, Rudolph and Virginia Lavoie; niece Nancy Kimball and special Uncle Forest “Toddy” Knapp.
Friends may call 5-7 PM Wednesday June 29, 2022 at the Birmingham Funeral Home 438 Main Street Old Town. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10AM Thursday at Parish of the Resurrection, St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Bradley. Interment with military honors will be at Evergreen Cemetery, Bradley.
