OLD TOWN AND SOUTHWEST HARBOR - Bernice I. Cousins, 92, died peacefully surrounded by her loving family August 26, 2014 at a Bar Harbor hospital. She was born October 28, 1921 in Old Town a daughter of Louis H and Enda Rae (Brown) Littlefied.She graduated from Old Town High School class of 1939 and attended Eastern Maine General school of nursing. She worked at the Home Private Hospital in Old Town and also did private duty nursing in Old Town. She also worked at Consolidated Supply Co and designed kitchens. She was an active member of the Old Town United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school, sang in the choir, and directed the children's choir. She was past president of the Methodist Women's Club, served as girl scout leader, member of the Mt. Desert DAR, past president of Our Neighborhood federated club, past president of IOC (Inter organizational Council) of Old Town. She loved to play bridge. She is survived by a daughter Arline Seavey and her husband Wayne of South Addison; three sons Richard B Cousins Jr. and his wife Kathleen of Old Town; Robert L. Cousins and his wife Judy of Bass Harbor, and John C. Cousins III and his wife Mary Anne of Brewer; 17 grandchildren Barbara and Mark Snowden, Doug and Kate Seavey, Dianne Berube, David, Dan, and Julie Cousins, Cassier, Justice, Chantrelle, Jeremiah, Amytheist, and Jasper Cousins, John C Cousins IV, Michael Cousins , Donald Davis; 17 great grandchildren; two sisters, her twin Beatrice McCleary; and Lois Gile; nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband Richard B Cousins Sr. in 2008 and a sister Gertrude Kirkpatrick. Friends may call 6-8PM Friday at the Birmingham Funeral Home 438 Main St Old Town. A funeral service will be conducted 1PM Saturday at the Old Town United Methodist Church. Burial will be at Lawndale Cemetery, Old Town.
