Bradley and Old Town--Donald Leo Hamel, 69, passed away unexpectedly June 5, 2022, doing what he loved on a fishing trip at Moosehead Lake with his good friend Gene Buck. He was born January 16, 1953, in Bangor the son of Leo F. and Joan (True) Hamel.
Don was a graduate of Old Town High School. He worked at the Old Town Mill for many years. Don enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing and camping. There are many great memories of times at camp on Chemo Pond. More than anything, he loved spending time with his family especially his grandchildren.
He is survived by a son, Todd Hamel and wife Kacey of Old Town; a daughter, Jodi Gomm and husband Andrew of Bradley; brothers, Bruce Hamel and wife Deborah of Milford, Edwin Hamel of Florida; a sister, Gail LeClair and husband David of Florida; grandchildren, Makenzie and Aiden Gomm, Peyton, Addisyn, and Brooklynn Hamel; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.
He was predeceased by his parents Leo and Joan, his sister in law Theresa Hamel and the mother of his children Brenda Pelletier.
A celebration of life gathering will be held 5-7 pm Monday June 27, 2022 at Birmingham Funeral Home where a brief service will be conducted at 7PM. Graveside services will be 2PM Tuesday June 28 at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Bangor. Condolences to the family may be expressed at birminghamfuneralhome.com
