Don was born on April 9, 1925, in Howland, Maine. He was the oldest son of Galen Allen Swett and Clara Ellen (Faloon) Swett.
He graduated from Howland High School, Class of 1942. He enlisted in the United States Army where he served in World War II in Central Europe as a troop/artillery transporter.
He married his loving wife, Mona I. Sage, on January 25, 1946.
Don, his father, and brother, John Clifford Swett, owned/started and ran the Lincoln Beverage Company for three years. After that, he began his 50-year career as a car salesman where he sold Fords and Chrysler/Plymouth/Dodge in Lincoln. He was exceptional at his job and received many awards for his salesmanship.
Don proudly served his community in various capacities including town moderator, selectman, development committees, the Howland Housing Corporation, and the Board of Directors of Northeast Bank. He also was a lifetime member of the Piscataquis Masonic Lodge No. 44, the American Legion Post 47 in Howland, and the VFW organization.
After retiring at the age of 75, him and Mona spent several winters in Florida in the company of good friends. When not wintering down south they spent their time enjoying their camp on South Branch Lake, Seboeis Plantation.
Don and Mona looked forward to spending and cherished their summers at camp with their family. Don, lovingly referred to as Papa by his grandchildren, enjoyed sitting on their screened-in porch, driving the grandchildren around in the "big boat", and always making sure we "don't go away mad!"
The family would like to thank Don's niece, Paula, as well as Carlene C., Gina, Cheryle, Linda, Michelle, Hannah, Whitney, Julie, and Brenda for the extraordinary care they gave to him.
