Donald proudly served with the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He was a life member of the VFW. He was a hard working family man, and balanced work with plenty of family time. He worked as a master oil burner technician for over 45 years, owning and operating D E Voteur Oil Co., and was employed as a supervisor for both Webber and Irving Oil Companies.
He was an avid hunter, fisher, and outdoorsman. He enjoyed bass fishing on the Penobscot River. He enjoyed wood working and working his wood pile. Don enjoyed the company of friends and family and enjoyed going out to eat, frequenting Hollywood Casino, and "ramming the roads in his little white truck."
He is survived by his six children, Robert and his close friend, Sandra, of Maine, Diane Disanto of Massachusetts, Michael and his wife, Christine, of Maine, David and his wife, Carol, of Maine, James and his wife, Melissa, of New Hampshire and Debbie Farley and her husband, Shaun, of Connecticut; 11 grandchildren, Sean and Donald Voteur, Anthony Disanto, Jenna and Lauren Voteur, Ashlie Voteur, Hannah and Christian Voteur, and Cody, Ryan, and Declan Farley; eight great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Karen McLaughlin and husband, David; and neighbors and close friends, Paul and Peggy Gerald.
He was predeceased by his wife, Pauline, in 2008, and his parents.
Friends may call 4-8 p.m. Sunday, September 23, at Birmingham Funeral Home, 438 Main St., Old Town. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Monday, September 24, at Parish of the Resurrection, Holy Family Church, Old Town. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to share their memories of Donald at a luncheon in the parish hall.
