Indian Island – Donna B. Chapman, 81, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, after a brief illness surrounded by her friends that loved her on September 29, 2023. Donna was born in Old Town on January 29, 1942, the daughter of Donald E. and Alberta R. (Nicola) Byers.
Donna was proud of her heritage and being a part of Penobscot Indian Nation. To know Donna, you know that one of her best traits was not backing down to things she felt passionate about, which is part of what molded her into a good lawyer. As her life progressed, she felt it was time to surrender her life to her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She was often growing in the grace and knowledge of the Lord, praying at a moment’s notice for another and humbling herself in the time of need. There was constant evidence Jesus was working in and through her.
Her joy over the last few years was watching and listening to the children at church, being involved in woman’s ministry events, such as the Christmas parties and the woman’s retreats with her best friend.
Donna was well known for her quick witted humor, which usually left her friends trying to catch up as she would chuckle waiting for them to figure out the joke. As her health declined, she never lost her sense of humor and even her final days on this side of heaven.
In addition to her parents, Donna was predeceased by her beloved sister, Mary. She is survived by a sister, Brenda and her husband Rob Hosier of Orrington; her best friends, Debbie Liberty and Viola Cotta. They will miss her dearly but know with confidence that she is with her Lord and Savior Jesus and they will see her again.
Many thanks for the staff at Northern Light ICU for their excellent care to Donna, as well as Eastside Rehabilitation. Thank you to the many hands and feet at her home church, Old Town Christian Fellowship for giving Donna rides, bringing meals as needed, praying over her, taking her out around town and for overall loving on her when she needed it most.
A celebration of life for Donna will be held on October 25, 2023, at 1PM at Old Town Christian Fellowship, 64 Water St., Old Town, ME, with light refreshments to follow. Following a time of fellowship, a graveside service will take place at Tribal cemetery on Indian Island.
