Douglas Joseph Francis, Sr., 73, of Tobique Reserve, NB, Canada and Penobscot Nation, Old Town, ME, passed away at his home, August 4, 2022. He was born in New Brunswick, January 30, 1949, the son of Paul and Alberta (Bear) Francis.
Douglas worked as a Game Warden, Patrol Officer, and dispatcher for the Penobscot Nation until his retirement in 2011. He loved spending time fishing, hunting, and playing in horseshoe tournaments. Douglas lived a very active lifestyle, and he loved playing with his young grandchildren as well as playing “Halo” on Xbox with his older grandchildren and nephews. He will be greatly missed by all of his family and friends.
Douglas is survived by his dear wife, Shirley Francis; daughters, Lisa Francis Crews and her husband, Russell, and Tracy Neptune; sons, Dale Woods and Douglas Francis, Jr. and his wife, Brandie (Armitage) Francis; grandchildren, Gavin Francis, Jaelyn Francis, Kylar Deroche, Autumn Francis, Bella Neptune, Raina Francis, River Francis, Bryson Francis, Pheadra Francis, Danika Francis, Lyric Francis, Sabrina Francis, Lucas Francis, Nicholas Francis, and Carrie Cavana. He is also survived by his siblings, Barbara Francis, Dianne Bronson, Paul Francis, Jr. and Patrick Francis, as well as a dear niece, Renee Pillsbury. He was predeceased by two sons, Paul Thomas and Anthony Francis.
Private interment for the family will be at St. Anne’s Cemetery, Tobique Reserve, NB, Canada. Please have a smudge or a smoke to remember Douglas in a special way.
