George Edwin Feero passed away on July 27, 2018 at home in Old Town, Maine. He was born on July 16, 1934 in Old Town to Harry and Doris (Smith) Feero. George was a graduate of Old Town High School class of 1953 and was a member of the Future Farmers of America organization. He was an avid gardener/farmer and loved having peas ready for the Fourth of July. George was a member of the Carpenters and Millwrights Union, local 621 for over 30 years serving as Business agent. He claimed to have worked at every paper mill in Maine and on numerous jobs including the construction of Interstate 95.
George was a nearly life-long resident of Alton, Maine, his childhood home and hunting grounds. He raised his large family and large gardens there as well. He enjoyed family gatherings that included his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. George was a member of the Alton Volunteer Fire Department and served as Fire Chief in the 1980’s. George taught an apprenticeship program for future millwrights at the former EMVTI. George’s greatest pleasures were hunting and fishing with his family and life-long friends. He was a teller of stories and loved to entertain anyone willing to listen.
George was predeceased by his parents, brothers Hartford and Jonathan Feero, and his sister Dora Feero Young. He is survived by is wife Joyce (Annis) Feero of Old Town, his brothers William and Lyman Feero and sister Avis Babb. He is also survived by his children Kenneth Feero of Belmont, Barry Feero of Brooks, Shannon (Rick) Erb of Brunswick, Regina (Roger) Marquis, George (Stacie) Feero Jr., Jodie (Alan Brownewell) Feero, Harry (Tammy) Feero, and Jacquelyn (Charlie) Richmond all of Old Town. George delighted in his 14 grandchildren, Kimber, Kenny, Joey, Garrett, Hannah, Hogan, Kayla, Hayley, Desiree, Jake, Lily, Hayden, Bennett and Abigail and 9 great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of his life is planned for Wednesday, August 1 at Birmingham Funeral Home 438 Main St Old Town from 4 – 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Maine Youth Fish and Game Association PO Box 337 Stillwater, ME 04489 www.maineyouthfishandgame.org. Envelopes for donations will also be available at the funeral home. A burial in the Alton Cemetery will be held at a later date.
