George owned and operated McKenney’s Small Engine for the last 20 years. He loved working with his hands, but he also loved the sense of community he had with his customers and the socializing was equally as important to him as the business. George was defined by a life of hard work. At age 12, he was already working in forestry. His work ethic began at a young age, and it only grew with time. George was a man who would give the shirt off his back to help anyone and he was always available to lend a helping hand.
George was an avid outdoorsman. He loved hunting and fishing and had many stories from his time working as a guide in Alaska. In recent years, George and Dottie would take long rides together on the side by side. Together they enjoyed 20 years of marriage.
George is survived by his wife, Dottie; daughter, Sondra Swasey and her daughter, Amelia; son, Michael Noonan and his daughters, Caitlin and Cassidy; dear friend, Pete Thibeault; special nephews, John McKenney and Jeffrey Legere; as well as many, many other dear members of the McKenney Family. He is predeceased by his sister, Anna; and brothers, Arnold, Ronald and Daynel.
The family wishes to extend their thanks to the EMTs with Orono and Old Town Fire and Safety for their care of George during his final moments.
Family and friends are invited to join in conversation and refreshments at 2 – 6pm, Saturday, August 7, 2021 at the Elks Lodge BPOE 1287, 37 4th St., Old Town, on the lower level. Those who wish to remember George in a special way may make gifts in his memory to the Orono Fire Department, 63 Main St. Orono, ME 04473 or Old Town Public Safety, 150 Brunswick St. Old Town, ME 04468.
