Gregory Leonard, 73, passed away on August 4, 2020.
Greg was a graduate of Old Town High School and joined the Army upon graduation. After the army, he lived the remainder of his life in Old Town. He was an active member of the Old Town American Legion Post 75 and forged many lasting friendships throughout the years. In his later years he worked at the University of Maine in Orono. He was loved by everyone that had the privilege of knowing him and everyone appreciated his dry sense of humor and his quick wit that was classic Greg!
Greg was blessed to share 33 years of marriage with his wife, Barbie, until her death in 2016. He had a special relationship with his youngest stepdaughter, Georgia, and they shared a passion for learning for many years. She has always said that he was one of the smartest people she had ever known. She was fascinated that no matter what she learned in school to discuss with Greg, he knew the answers, and encouraged her to embrace a lifetime of learning.
He was predeceased by his wife, Barbara Jean (Robichaud) Leonard, his parents Kearn James and Annie Elise (Thompson) Leonard, his brother James Leonard and his sisters Brenda and Iris Leonard. He is survived by his step-children, Sheila Benway and her husband, Dwayne of Old Orchard Beach, Scott Therrien and his son, Gabe Therrien of Auburn, and Georgia Pelletier and her husband Dennis Ng of Danbury, CT, Brother-in-law Dick Robichaud and his wife Dianne, Sister-in-law Beatrice Violette and her husband, Leroy, Brother-in-law Butch Robichaud and his wife, Loretta, Brother-in-Law Amos Robichaud and his wife, Pamela, and Sister-in-Law Debra Pollard and her husband, Greg, and many nieces and nephews.
A special thank you to all who helped Georgia to watch over her beloved Greg – her husband, Dennis, who supported her endeavors and her love for Greg and kept him connected to social media with new electronics over the years. Lisa Ketch Dillen, who brought him to and from the airport for his trips to CT to visit Georgia and Dennis. Sherri Nason Parent, “Baby” Jane Arbuckle and her husband Bill, Jennifer from the Old Town Housing Authority, Norma Rockwell, and Krista Richards. In the midst of this pandemic, you were her eyes and ears and she will remain grateful to all of you for your compassion and your concern.
Due to the COVID19 pandemic, there will be no memorial service. Instead, please take a moment and draw upon your most favorite memory of Greg, tuck it inside your heart with a smile and reflect on it often to keep him alive in our hearts.
Greg will be cremated, and his ashes will be placed together with his wife where they will be together for eternity. A special thank you to Birmingham Funeral Home for your grace and compassion during this most difficult time.
