OLD TOWN--James L Clifford, 97, passed away peacefully at the Maine Veterans Home in Bangor on January 31, 2023, after a brief stay. He was born in Old Town on September 13, 1925, one of five children of Arthur and Ida (Brodeur) Clifford.
James graduated from Corinna Union Academy and was a Korean War Veteran. He worked most of his life in the woolen mills in Corinna and Dexter as a spinner, and then later as a custodian at the University of Maine. But his real passion was the outdoors, where he was an avid hunter and fisherman, and where his secret berrying spots were. For a time, he had a hunting camp in Greenbush, where he liked to spend time with his younger brother Paul.
James was predeceased by his sister Alta Zinchuck and her husband Walter, his brothers Paul and Valmore and Val’s wife Joannie, and his brother-in-law Bud Blumenstock. He is survived by his sister Helen Blumenstock of Orono, and Paul’s wife Sally of Leominster, MA, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
He was a devoted and supportive member of the Parish of the Resurrection of the Lord in Old Town, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 am on February 10 with a reception following at the Parish Hall.
James’ family would like to express their thanks for the care he received by the staff at the Maine Veterans Home and Northern Light Home Care and Hospice. They would also like to thank James’ neighbors for being so caring, which allowed him to live until the very end the independent life he valued so much.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11AM Friday February 10, 2023 at Parish of the Resurrection of Lord, Holy Family Church, Old Town. Immediately following the service all are invited to a light luncheon and continued fellowship. Spring burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery, Old Town.
Donations may be made to the Parish of the Resurrection of the Lord, 429 Main St., Old Town, ME 04468.
