James A. Simon Old Town—James A. Simon, 87, died peacefully, 87, January 29, 2020 surrounded by family at a Brewer health care facility. He was born March 17, 1932 in Bangor a son of Frank and Bernice (Bradeen) Simon. He attended Old Town High School and started working at the mill in Old Town. The call came to serve his country as a member of the US Army during Korea. Upon discharge from the service, he returned to the Old Town mill where he was employed for 43 years. He enjoyed reading the Bangor Daily News and the Penobscot Times and watching his evening programming of the local news and Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy. He also enjoyed watching the Red Sox, the Andy Griffith Show, and reality TV. He enjoyed his weekly trip to Denny’s Restaurant where he would always order a Diet Coke and breakfast. James enjoyed time spent with family and friends, especially those special times of birthday’s or holidays. He always enjoyed family BBQs at Sebasticook Family Campground in Newport. He is survived by three children Sue Sapiel and her husband David of Indian Island; David Simon and his wife Donna of Old Town and Daniel Simon of Old Town; four grandchildren David Sapiel Jr. and his girlfriend Mary Ross of Brewer, Krystal Sapiel of Indian Island, Jessy Simon-Armstrong of Hudson, and Marccus Sapiel and his wife Sierra of Bradley; special little buddy Nicholas; his fur grandbabies, brother Charlie Simon of Danforth and a special lifelong friend Harry Perkins of Old Town. He was predeceased by his parents, two brothers Frank Jr. and Cecil Simon; sister Gladys Cyr, and the mother of his children Madeline Smith. Friends may call 6-8PM Monday at the Birmingham Funeral Home 438 Main St Old Town. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10AM Tuesday at Parish of the Resurrection of the Lord, Holy Family Church. Spring burial with military honors will be conducted at St. Joseph Cemetery, Old Town. Immediately following the funeral mass, all are invited to the Parish Hall for a light luncheon and continued fellowship.
