Joanne Helen (Dunton) Drinkwater

MILFORD--Joanne Helen (Dunton) Drinkwater, 88, left her earthly body on July 28, 2020 to walk on streets of gold and enjoy being in the presence of her Lord and Savior. Joanne was born in Bangor on December 30, 1931, the daughter of Nona and Horace Dunton.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Alton L. Drinkwater. She was also preceded in death by her eight siblings.

Joanne and her husband were the proud owners of Drinkwater’s Auto Sales for 56 years. She enjoyed helping to build the family business and being an active part of the Milford community. Joanne loved spending time with family and friends at her lake house on Pushaw (despite “those nasty geese”) and hosting July 4th parties. She also enjoyed attending church services, cooking, playing games with friends and family, traveling, and wintering in warmer climates at the homes of her children. She was known for having a house so clean you could “eat off her floors.” As one of her grandchildren said, “Heaven will never be cleaner.” Joanne enjoyed talking about what her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were up to, and sharing their accomplishments. She was dearly loved and will be greatly missed.

Joanne is survived by her children, daughter Ann Drinkwater Faugl (Don) of South Carolina, son Gary Drinkwater (Paula) of Maine, daughter Nancy Drinkwater Smith (Stan) of California, and son Ted Drinkwater (Tammie) of Georgia. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be conducted 1 pm Sunday, August 2, 2020, at the Milford Cemetery, Bradley Road, Milford, Maine. Face covering and social distancing guidelines. The service will be livestreamed on the Birmingham Funeral Home Facebook page.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Maine Youth Fish and Game Association PO Box 337 Stillwater, ME 04489 www.maineyouthfishandgame.org.

I spent countless hours at the Drinkwater home. The Drinkwater-Osborne boys were like brothers and "Ted's Mom" was a part of the great memories made during the course of those years spanning from grade school through college. We we're lucky to have such great parents.

Aunt Joanne was such a special person to me. We shared many of laughs and good times together. She used to love going to Home Interior shows with me and building puzzles. I remember giving her a diamond ring; she was so excited, she had tears in her eyes and told me she never had a diamond ring before. She will surely be missed. Heaven definitely gained a beautiful person inside and out.
